It's up to the individual city or county they're located in. Some will and some won't we've found.

Always check with management or security for where to park even if Signs stating no overnight Rv parking are posted.
In my area stores are having trouble with people staying several days thus the signs. 1 night is usually no problem.

The list of the No RV Parking Wal*Marts stores is shorter than the list of stores that allow it...see:
No Overnight Parking at Walmart – Walmart Locator

Only a few Wal*Marts are right near the 5, so you have look-up the store by city.

Best luck

never been turned away or asked to leave any walmart anywhere, in CA - most actually only have the signs because of local ordinances, not store policy

stayed overnight at probably more than 50 nationwide, and also at HD, LWS, and other big box stores when WMT is a little too crowded

I-5 is a VERY long freeway. What specific locations were you looking at staying?

If one or more of your proposed locations are on this list then I would call first and ask.

The one in Saugus which is part of Santa Clarita just off the I-5 and the CA-126 allows overnight RV parking.

If you check with management, they will just tell you no. Walmart does not care, but city ordinances ban it, especially in CA large cities. But you are right, 1 night is usually no problem - depends on if police have time to make trouble. Or if people are getting out of hand, Walmart may call police who will chase everyone away.

We stopped at various Walmarts in California on our travels through last Fall, and there were so many homeless, sleeping in vehicles and on the verges, plus some very dubious characters in some places, we ended up checking out the nearest Casinos from the locations we had targeted of WM and have to say we were welcomed and felt much happier and most importantly safer at them.

Just saying check out CasinoCamper as well, you might find it a good backup to just the WM's.

We pulled into Stockton at 830 at night, we where the only RV there, didn't feel comfortable. So we drove another 45 minutes south to a rv resort. With my luck we would have been asked to leave. which the wifie was already cranky

If you haven't been to CA, you'll probably be surprised by the Walmart stores ... they are quite a bit smaller and often not in big standalone locations .... and they are far apart.

There are 299 Walmart/Sams in CA and 367 stores in FL. ... CA is 163,000 sq. mi. and FL is 65,000 sq. mi.
