Class C - no TOAD - how to keep spot while off exploring?

how do you keep a boondocking spot when you're just gone for a few hrs or most of the day
we don't have a tow vehicle, so everything goes with us
we're new to RVing and to boondocking
just wondering if it can be done, or just not good etiquette, and you have to hope it's still available when you get back?

What bob caldwell said is about all that can be done. You might make a sign to hang on the chairs. This is done often and rarely does anyone losse their site.

I pad lock the power pedestal, tie a black trash bag over it and tape a paper showing my name onto the bag.

When you're boondocking you won't have power. I don't think he's talking about staying in campgrounds.

A cheap tent is a good idea. However, most anything would work. We never had anything stolen from our boondocking site (national forests, BLM lands) when we went siteseeing during the day. We wouldn't advise leaving anything of value though such as bikes or a generator.

A lot of times I've seen people leave a folding chair in the middle of the parking place with a sign on it.

Plus tell your neighbors you'll be back so they can help out too.

Yes, a lawn chair works. When we were newbies, we did not know that. So we would leave a big fake sign tacked to a tree -- "Hey Bubba -- go ahead and set up the sound system. We will be right back with more beer and ammo. Love, Peggy Sue and Big Jim."

It worked to discourage neighbors from parking near us, but it was not really necessary.

I took a plastic 5 gal. bucket, wrote "site occupied," cut two holes in it and ran a bike lock cable through it. Bucket makes a good side table for a camp chair too.

Why a bike lock cable through it? The OP asked about boondocking; not a campground.

We use a traffic cone with our last name stenciled on it and often leave a lawn chair or two. We have never had a problem with anyone taking them.

It’s problematic because you don’t have the right to monopolize public land. How would others know you are not trying to reserve a piece of their land you don’t own? Alas, there are people who leave their cast off stuff on public land.

Unless you put up a tent or other things to show active occupancy you need to accept you need to find another spot if someone moves in.

If you try a sign putting the date on it might discourage some.
