Faced with sanatizing the fresh water tank on my new motorhome, I hose on thadded a water pump in my wet bay with enough hose on the intake to reach out to a water can. On the output side of he pump I installed a hose with a male end that can be connected to the inlet of the fresh water holding tank.

Never, never, never, never, never dry camp.

Numerous studies have shown a little nip now & then is good four us.

Mike, I often dry camp, but @ noon I will open the beer bar & @ 4 the good stuff comes out.

As to the tank, only use a white RV hose. If the hose is new, coil the hose, pour 1/16-1/8 cup of bleach into hose, add about 1 qt of water, connect hose ends together, rotate hose to distribute solution thru hose. Drain and rinse hose. Connect male end, add 1/8-1/4 cup bleach thru female end and then fill M/H water tank till it overflows. Using the fresh water pump on board, pump water from water tank thru all faucets till bleach water comes out all, both hot and cold. (start with a drained hot water tank) Now drain fresh water tank, and hot water tank and refill with fresh water, repeat above a couple of times.

The hot water tank MUST be turned off during this.

Another method is to use Sodium Dichlor. It may be purchased at any home-brew supply store. It is designed to wash beer-making equipment, then air-dry-no rinsing required. The very best way to destroy your water pump and destroy all the gaskets in your motorhome is to put clorox (bleach)in your water tank. I never drink the water out of my tank; washing dishes, taking baths, no problem.I carry an igloo water cooler for drinking and cooking.
Flush your fresh water holding tank really really good; city water has chemicles to kill bacterea, unless you plan on drinking the water this will be good enough.
been doing this for 25 years and have had no problems.

I've been putting hyperclorinated water in the FW tank for more than 30 years. The owner's manual with my latest TT advises sanitizing by adding the proper amount of bleach to water (I forget the amounts) and then add this mix to the tank. There aren't any chemicals in my water as it comes from my well. I have never had problems with seals. I use the same procedure for the 5 gallon carrier on my ATV and the 55 gallon spare water tank in the bed of the truck. Once at the beginning of the season is enough for us. I leave the hyper solution in for 24 hrs and then follow with at least 5 rinses. We have no quibbles about drinking the water. In 5 different TTs, I have never replaced a water pump. The current TT is a 1996.

According to the RV Manufacturer's the following is what they say:

Mix 1/4 cup of bleach to 15 gal of water (example: 1.5 cups for a 90-gal tank). Fill water tank. Pump thru all hoses, faucets, via water pump. Let stand for a 3 or 4 hrs, then rinse. Drain and flush with potable water. Then mix 1/2 cup of baking soda to a 1 gal of water and pour mixture into tank, then re-fill, circulate thru all faucets.

The baking soda neutralizes the bleach.
