Got to admit to a certain chuckle about looking for all those cheap spots then buying a Thousand Trails membership. ;-)

I use a website call Overnightrvparking.com which is outstanding for finding free one-nighters. There is a modest annual fee which is less than the cost of one night in a campground. Excellent source and well worth the price. This website has saved me loads of money and added great convenience to my travels.

Thousand Trails

Couldn't resist camping for $15/ night for 30 days then $3. We like their locations (been through 3) and even a poor campground is worth it just for the utilities.
We'll tend to use it Sept -Nov, the slow season in most places. So far the online reservation system was great, 1 park was full but we got into 3 we wanted.

When I made this original post, I had no idea I would be joining Thousand Trails. We were in the Hershey PA area (paying $58 night to camp in a run down park) when we stumbled into the TT property and took a tour. I knew of their 2 parks on the Jersey shore and 1 in Wells ME. Saw 3 locations in the Poconos, another favorite spot. we were hooked and signed up. Brings cost per night down to less than $15. Surely a game changer for us. Booked in Cape Cod, Wells, ME etc all the way down to Orlando! Will boondock inbetween. Thousand Trails is great. I can relax now in full service parks in great locations!

I'm from the West, but have done the East Coast from Florida to Maine. I too use SKPs Days End. I also use Elks Lodges, and casino's. During a 10 month trip up the east coast, into Canada including Newfoundland I averaged $3.43/nite for camping including Washington DC where I stayed at the Greenbelt.

Trip update...NYC has been the only budget buster out here (Liberty Harbor RV @$90 night). TT has parks near some of my favorite spots... Penna Dutch country, Poconos, Jersey Shore, Sturbridge, Cape Cod, and Wells ME. And I am just getting started. TT parks are great, note my experience is the sweet spot after Labor Day. Like their res system, quick check in and full HU often with cable for a small upcharge. Did boondock at the Staples in Greenfield MA (VG gateway to Vermont/NH). Boondockerswelcome also kicking in during my "7 night out " of TT since we stayed 7 nights in Cape Cod. Can't believe how much money I am saving using these methods with no reduction in enjoyment.

Your experience with TT is the same as mine with Escapees. So many parks out there that offer great amenities at great prices if you have the right club membership.
