Greenbelt Metro Station

Has anyone overnighted at the Greenbelt Metro Station when visiting Washington DC? We are planning to spend a long day (or 2) in DC the day after Thanksgiving and are looking for a convenient place near the Metro to overnight. I saw that the Greenbelt station offers multiway parking. Anybody ever use it?

I'm from Virginia myself but there is an NPS park in Greenbelt that you can camp at:

Fees & Reservations - Greenbelt Park

I personally would not boondock or dry camp at a metro station. Not safe and I'm sure that there are some laws against it.

Yes, after further research I think Greenbelt NPS is the best answer

We just left D.C. a few days ago. We boondocked at a Wal-Mart for one night. I called the Wal-Mart and they said we could park there so we stayed overnight in their parking lot, went in the next morning and talked to the manager because we planned on going into D.C. for the day and I wanted to be sure our rig would be alright sitting there for the day and he then said we couldn't boondock there at all. Apparently Wal-Mart didn't have an issue with it but they didn't own the parking lot and the landlord has been cracking down on overnight parking.

I called the metro station and they said we could not boondock there. So we opted to go to Greenbelt National Park. We stayed there for two nights at $16 per night. It was a great stay and close to D.C. They have no electric or water hookups but do have drinking water, dump station and bathrooms with showers. Total travel time into D.C. both days for us was about 30 minutes.

The first day we rode the metorail and for six of us (Wife and I and 4 kids) it cost $54 round trip.We had my fathers van that we took into D.C. the second day. I found a parking spot around Capitol Mall and didn't have to pay for parking. We had to move the van once because there is no parking during rush hour on the road we originally parked on but we didn't have a problem finding another parking spot where you could park.

Hope that helps.
