Larry and Penny Thompson county park in South Miami usually holds some spaces available for shorter stays. We are staying Jan through March. You probably couldn't get a long term spot right now. Last winter we saw quite a few folks staying a few days and then moving on. It's a very nice park with full hookups, 30/50 A service. We drive down to the middle Keys for lunch sometimes.

Thanks for that info! Might be the better option instead of driving the truck and trailer down to KW.

Venture Out maybe? The sites are mostly if not all privately owned but many are for rent and sale. I have not stayed there either but have heard it is nice.

1bigmess, We have stayed at two Publix in the Keys over the last two years (in Feb/March) Only for the night, we asked the managers at both places, and they had no problems with it, as long as we didn't stay more than one night. It helped us to "get where we were going" without having to stay at a campground just for 8 or 10 hours to catch up on sleep!

The Venture Out is a good location. They don't have many sites available as many are park models.

Thumbs up campgrounds close to Key West

Leo's Campground is also at mile marker 4.5. Small, neat, one price includes water, sewer, electric, cable, wi fi, laundry, and bath house if needed. Lots of iguanas during the day and geckos at night. Park the rig and rent a scooter in Key West. Need more stability? Rent a buggy. We rented a golf cart and went all over Key West. Gas was included with the one we rented. Came with top, windshield, turn signals, brake lights, and a tag! easy to turn around anywhere. Still have to pay to park, though. On the other hand, scooters have free parking all over. Reservations are a must. Small store on site with ice, etc. Staff was friendly to us, and the rates were very reasonable.
