How do you shave?

Exactly! A fully charged Norelco shaver should go several weeks between charges. And it will take very little current to recharge.

My Norelco will shave my mug for two to three weeks on a single charge.

I have tried all kinds of ways to shave and found the best for me when boondocking is to heat a cup of water to boiling, soak a wash rag with about half the water, then immerse a shaving brush and razor in the remaining water. I use Williams Mug soap in a cup and make a lather with my shaving brush. Apply lather to face and shave. Use the rest of the water to soak the rag and rinse face.

You don't mention if you have solar, but if you have enough solar panels and batteries, running an electric razor for a few minutes shouldn't be a problem.


I have 3 solar panels and 4 batteries, so I could use an electric razor, but I prefer Williams shaving soap and a shaving brush. I buy my blades online from Dollar Shave Club.

Have been using cheapest shaving cream (<$1 per can) and a multi-blade Gillette Fusion razor and shave every second day by putting a small amount of water in the sink, scooping it up in my hands to wet my beard, apply the cream, shave, and rinse my face with the water.

Really don't understand the popularity of stubble in today's society.

Stubble I understand, not as a fashion statement but, if I'm not visiting clients or going to the office I don't shave and as a result, stubble.

What really gets me is all the young guys today who think the small random patches of hair on their face is a beard. Don't grow a beard until you can grow a beard. I had a chief in the Navy who would say to them "what your are trying to cultivate on your face grows wild on my butt".

Between razor nicks and ingrown whiskers boondocking makes things worse for me as I try to shave faster with less water.

My last shave 2 days ago I now have an ingrown whisker that I can not leave alone...[emoji20] .

I used my usual Gillette twin blade disposable. Using my hand if I feel whiskers I go over the area again.

I will use the suggestion of using Noxema as well as using more heat. I will warm water on a cloth to help moisten the beard.

I read a few people use the cheapest shave creme and have good luck...maybe I see Barbasol in my future.

Talcum powder. Doesn't waste water, will give you as close or closer shave than soap. Shave, then wash your face, no extra water used.



It can be a bit messy but cleans up with damp towel. It works very well. When I used to shave regularly, I always dry shaved. If I wanted it really smooth, I'd use talcum powder.



I learned the trick back in the 80's from a barber who got his first barber license in Minneapolis in 1929. He used to shave me with a straight razor sometimes.

Been using Barbasol for decades. Does the job as well if not better than any of the more expensive stuff I've tried and you have many types to choose from.

Just bought Barbasol as well as a brand new Braum Series 3 electric shaver. I am now nursing a new ingrown whisker from saving too fast 3 days ago...ugh.

I can almost guarantee that would go away if you stopped using the shaving cream/gel/soap for a week, maybe two. After that first two weeks you'll regret that you ever used shaving cream to begin with.
I stopped in 2003 and it took about two weeks for the skin on my face and neck to fully adjust, but after that I realized that I'd been needlessly abusing my skin for 30 years. Saves time and money.

Some guys are into the ritual of shaving, to me it's just another PITA thing I need to do as infrequently as I can get away with.
