Hwy 90 Mississippi
A couple years ago we took a detour on Hwy 90 near Gulfport MS on the way to NOLA. This was a nice waterfront road where numerous RVs appeared to be boondocking along this road in abandoned leveled lots (Katrina). Anyone familiar with this and is it common or was this a special event?

We just returned from that area last month and didn't see any rv's parked on the vacant lots along Hwy 90. Same thing in the fall of 2013. We traveled from Gulfport west to Bay St. Louis several times. Don't know about farther west towards New Orleans.

We were staying at Shepard State park just off Hwy 90 in Gautier, MS last October (2014) and took a ride over to Gulfport and and did not notice a large amount of RV's, but a few. I wondered if they were the lot owner or someone the lot owner specifically gave permission to live in RV until better arrangements could be made.
There are several casinos in the area that may allow camping.
I would not stay on private property without permission.

GPS for specific locations would be helpful

Okay. There looked to be a large car show going on then as well. It must have been related and not the norm.

During Oct they have Cruising the Coast car show. About 10 days and thousands of cars. An empty lot rents for several hundred dollars for those days. I doubt you could find a free space

You can get away with a Walmart style stop on certain ares on the beach side of Hwy 90. If you try it on any lot or property on the north side of 90 you will get a visit from local LE! It is all private property. Lots of casinos from Bay St. Louis to Biloxi. Call and ask their RV parking policy. They are friendly for the most part. Avoid the area around the Beau Rivage as they are working hard to finish th new minor league ball park. Great food in the area. White Caps, Blowfly Inn, and try Desportes Seafood for lunch and for your fresh seafood. The Casino buffets have gone downhill in the last year. They are still decent on weekends if you want to grub on crab. Beautiful areas in Pass Christian, Long Beach ( you can still get a bonfire permit from the city of Long Beach for the beach, but please clean up after yourselves if you use this), Buccaneer State Park (finally rebuilt after Katrina with nice CG), and the National Seashore in Ocean Springs. Ocean Springs is a craft lovers area with a ton of smaller shops! I just moved from that area after 13 years.
