LL Bean Boondocking
We stopped in Freeport ME last week to check out the LL Bean store and must say we were NOT impressed with the store itself. The current Cabellas and Bass Pro stores around the country leave this one pretty much in the slow lane. Having said that I must say they have a model shopping experience going in Freeport with all the other outlet shops grouped together nearby. But don't expect any bargains....
The City has gone out of their way to accommodate parking for all...including RVers. Everything is free, including the parking ramp imbedded into the shopping mall. RV's are offered a spot at the corners of Grove and Depot Sts., (on the NW side) and about one block from the mall. Parking is level with shade trees on the west side. A few trains during the day and evening, but dead silence all night long. We'd rank this one up there with one of the best boondocking spots ever!

You can park in a parking lot, you can overnight in a parking lot, you can sit in a parking lot, but you cannot Boondock in a parking lot unless, for some reason, you find a parking lot in the BOONDOCKS!

I think Freeport, Maine may be in the boondocks.

Gee I was in that store in 1970, looked pretty good to me. As I recall we were there in the wee hours of the morning and it was open. Four guys in a Volkswagen but we did not stay in the parking lot.

Was in Freeport 2 years ago and liked LL Bean and Freeport in general. Thought it was a cool place and not like most of the strip mall outlet shopping malls.

I'm going to give equal mention to the Eddie Bauer warehouse on the east side of Columbus, Ohio
HUGE parking lots and very few vehicles. You could hold an entire RV rally with room to spare.
The warehouse sells heavily discounted Eddie Bauer "stuff". Go on Wednesdays and you get even more discount (20%) for old critters like us. That is in addition to the 20 to 70% off of their overstocked goods. We shop there several times a year and come away with great bargains.
The entry is at: N 39.97117 W 83.12281 If you want, I can give you precise directions on the best way to get into the parking lots and even park under shade trees. I'm not certain if they allow overnight parking though. I'll ask the next time we go.
