need boondocking location south dakota please

Looking to boondock with my wife near Sioux Falls South Dakota at the end of May. We are willing to try 5-10 hours to get a good spot, I just dont want a place down in Florida. Or if someone can refer a website.

I prefer nature setting, hopefully no one else. This is our honey moon.

I live in Eastern SD. I don't know of any boondocking locations in eastern part of state. Union Grove State Park ($12/day no pwr or water) email for winter rates is pretty nice (check opening date). Most small towns have camping in their parks at prices that approach free (and it you don't use power or water may actually be free). Small town parks often have power and water. Vermillion has a nice place on Cherry street. Alcester has nice park - quiet and a very pretty park (the spaces won't accommodate big rigs tho)

There are five national forests in South Dakota. They have fairly basic (no hookups) campgrounds. They also allow "distributed camping" away from their campgrounds. There are some restrictions. Visit the website for the individual forest. See Campground Directory and National Forest Campgrounds

Wall and Buffalo Gap National Grassland RV Camping Location

Located 55 miles east of Rapid City, the closest town to our recommended RV camping location is Wall (6.4 miles)

Look at map on line of SD towns. If you go to google pick a town and just type for example Scotland SD most of these towns have web sites and will link you to available camp sites. Many of these small towns offer either free, low cost or voluntary contribution in a pay as you go box. I have used them before. These small towns will do this in order to "draw" you to the town and away from the bigger towns that have all the KOA's and so on. Also you might have to look a little way off of the interstate system but trust me, you can see much more beauty on some of the state highways. If you travel East to West, use Hi 44 all the way out to the hills. There are a lot of small towns with free camping just do some looking. Scotland, Menno, Marion, Armour, Faulkton, way more than I can list here. Some of the area's lakes, streams, have remote public access areas where you are allowed to camp and ask you pack it out as you go. We have also found some roadside areas on state highways, some are private owned by the land owner that just out of hospitality put in a spot for campers to stop and rest. We had family friends that did this near their family farm. Good old South Dakota hospitality!
