Overnight along I-10
Looking for some overnight spots along I-10 near the Mobile,AL area AND between Houston and Austin along Hwy 290. Cheap is good, free (and safe) is even better. 40 foot moho. Thanks

Meager State park just across Mobile Bay. There are several good spots in Pensacola which is about 45 minutes east. Check campgroundreviews.com for more information in this area.

Thanks for the reply bobbyl. I did check that site but the problem is that the reviewers don't tell you if the site is accessible to a 40' moho. But, thanks for the Meager SP suggestion

On the west side of Mississippi, at mile marker 3 there is a rest stop next to a NASA Visitors Center. The rest stop has about 20 pull thru sites. No hookups, but a good place to stop.
They do have security on duty.
When you pull in to the rest area follow the Truck & RV signs. You will eventually come to the truck area. Continue on through the Truck area parking and the road will curve around and you will find yourself in the RV area. The RV area is a long straight road with pull-thru campsites on both sides of the road. First come, first serve.
If you stop your RV in the truck area, security will come around and direct you to the RV area, so it's really hard to mess this one up.
I have used this rest area twice. The last time I pulled in around 9:00pm and was the only one there. I went to bed and awoke around 5:00am to take the dogs out. The place was packed. During the night many weary campers had pulled into the campsites and there were no vacancies left... So getting there early is recommended.
BTW... I have a 38 ft MH, and pull a Saturn VUE. I fit in the pull-thru with room to spare.

At the 70 mile marker exit (Mossy Head) in Florida you can park over night at Dixie RV Superstore. You can park a 150 foot MH in their lot. Security guard on duty all night and Deputies drive thru time to time and security cameras. No hook-ups available. You must be in an RV to stay overnight and we have folks stopping pretty often.
Mossy Head to Mobile is about 120 miles.

there are several good stops in Pensacola about 45 minutes east of Mobile. Pensacola Rv park is a nice park about 1 mile off the exit. Nice large spaces which easily accomodate 40' with toad. Food, shopping and gas at the exit.
