Just something off the wall we've noticed lately. We've had a few days of high wind and dust storms lately here, we're at the Hi-jolly short term area about 2 miles north of town. It's located on the east side of the highway and we're on the south side of it and about half way in. The majority of the dust in these storms stays to the west of the highway and west over to the mountains. Most big storms go north to south with an occasional southwest to northeast storm. Last nite I sat out and watched a storm bad enough that I couldn't see the mountains 10 miles away with little or no dust here. I hope I haven't Jinxed myself now, oh well just a quirk of nature I suppose.

The wind has been horrible here in Las Vegas, especially yesterday. The NWS yesterday had high-wind warning throughout the entire Mojave region; 45 mph winds, 70 mph gusts.

Usually, high winds in Nevada carry dust in from Arizona, which is orange-ish. Yesterday it was coming straight out of the south from the Mojave Desert, and was that dull, yellow-ish gray color. The surrounding mountains, which are only 3-15 miles away (depending on direction), were completely obscured.

Today the morning started out sunny and warm. But by 1pm the clouds rolled in, the wind kicked up and it dropped 15°. It was actually chilly... I know, I was on the roof of my RV at the time caulking some seams

There's also a new dusting of snow on the mountains to the north... weird for almost April.

So yeah, I'm with you. The weather here in the desert southwest is getting interesting

We're down in SE AZ and there's been a wind advisory since yesterday. Looks like it's regional, even dumping a bunch of snow up in northern AZ. The wind is supposed be back to normal levels this evening.

We left Hi Jolly last Friday and yes there were some windy days. Not so bad here in surprise. Are you the RV with the pretty lights on in the back at night?

That would be us. The big ironwood tree next to us has been cut out like a grotto, so we put some Christmas lites in the branches to lite it up. It makes it a really nice place to sit out under in the dark. We'll be heading for the coast of Northern California & Oregon for the summer as soon as it dries out there.

So what does all that dust and sand do to your RV? We want to spend some time in the desert but worrying the sand and dust storms might cause damage. Any damage or problems?

No damage, just dusty.

Theoretically I suppose it's possible for blowing sands to scuff your finish, but I think it would take a pretty long exposure to constant high winds and blowing sand to do anything more than dull your wax coat.

That said, the wind is depositing gritty, sandy dust on your finish. The biggest damage would be when washing it - if you don't rinse it down thoroughly before you putt a mitt, brush or rag to it, that could leave fine scratches very easily.
