Show me your 4 battery setup on the Tongue
Hi Campers!
I need to add two more Trojans on my toy hauler tongue. Two now fit between the tongue beams, but I need to add two more for the winter weather needs.
Thought of putting an aluminum box across with steel supports - anyone done this?
Pictures PLEASE!

Most people put the batts in the long way, but if you rotate the batts so the long way is parallel to the length of the trailer, I think you could easily fit them in that space

Thanks. Good idea but there is not enough room to do what you propose.
Anyone have photos of how you put four batteries on the tongue?

Not mine, but see attached. I have also seen a long skinny aluminum box meant for a pickup truck bed mounted like this, if you do the aluminum pickup box remember to ensure plenty of headroom for terminals, add louvers on the back side, low and high to allow for ventilation, and drain holes in the bottom at all for corners

OP here:
Thanks - I'd really like to see how folks have built the rack and attached it to the tongue.

That is a really simple welding job for pretty much any fabricator. A angle iron frame welded to the A frame of the tongue. Batteries can sit on the angle iron or it can have a bottom welded in. I am not a professional and it would take me less than 2 hours start to finish.

As mentioned, Outdoors RVs come with a plate welded to the undersurface of the A frame to support a battery box. They also welded on tabs to hold the box in place and slots in the tabs to strap down the box. Others have had more sturdy metal bars welded to the frame.

This is a ATV tool box from Amazon made by ZeeDee. It's kind of a tight squeeze to get it in place. I had to move my propane tank forward about an inch and a half. Then trim the snap-up for my equalizer bars a bit. I vented the box and put plywood in the bottom. Created some strap hold downs. I'm working on tidying up the wiring. The only place where it's a little tight is the distance from the top of the batteries to he inside of the lid. 'Bout an inch and a half clearance. Trojans will fit like my Duracell's

Exactly what I envision for our Desert Fox! How did you secure the aluminum box to the trailer tongue?

tpaul - I like your version a lot, but I just don't have the room in between the steel members of the frame. Ours is a 21-foot toy hauler, so maybe the larger units have more room. You have an honestly sweet setup.
Thanks for the reply.

I used stainless steel 3/8" Tek Screws with stainless fender washers. Then the 1/2" plywood. I dented the plywood with the installed Tek's then drilled the the plywood a little so the plywood would lay down nice and flat. Meaning the heads of the Tek's are recessed a bit into the bottom of the plywood.

If you look, his setup is not between the rails, it extends on both sides. It does look like it had less overall width of the trailer so it looks very usable. Great job!
