We've had so much rain the last 2 weeks here in SW Colorado we're ready to get away. We'd like to find a good location in NE Arizona to park our 5th wheel camper and do some metal detecting and also a little panning for gold. We would like to boondock out where it's quiet rather than pay at a RV park. And ideas or advice would be greatly appreciated.

Most of ne AZ is Reservation land, and I don't know a lot of boondocking spots there except maybe in the Aache/Sitgreaves National Forest. I've stayed at the High Country cg a couple of times, and it is a cg, but in a rural area, bordered on the National Forest.
It's a nice cg with nice hosts. It is a few miles west of Showlow. And they did get some snow last weekend!

Last year we stayed on the reservation at Canyon de Chelly, lots of large Cotton wood trees, no services but very large flat spots.

Go north out of Lordsburg NM on US 70 towards Duncan. Almost all of the land is BLM. Ranchers are using it for Taylor Grazing but it is multi-use. We were there a year ago for almost two weeks and the only person we saw was the rancher (and that only twice) and he seemed friendly. The BLM roads go to a number of spots that are great for boondocking. We stayed at a great spot about 3 miles from Gila River. There is are a few spots that overlook the river but there were not that good for a 34' 5th wheel. Should always go in with tow vehicle first to make sure that the road is passable for a rig and that you can turn around.

Thanks REED CLIFF I'll check it out. We should have our pkg from gpaa by end of the week and see if we can find a claim in that area.

Thanks but that's in NM and a 2 day trip for us with the 5er. We're looking for somewhere within 350+/- mles from us so to get there in one day. That's why we're looking NE of the Showlow area.

No BLM land to boondock? I wish I was in the SW. Come up here to New England and try to boondock. Not many places unless you know where to go..

Just south of Flag in Munds park. FR 240. 7200' elevation. Tons to do.

I wish we had your problem. It's 107 f degrees in northern Utah and we don't expect to see any rain for months. Everyone is staying inside in the air conditioning because you could bake an egg on the sidewalk. When it's 95 degrees at 9pm at night, I guess you could say it's summer.
