Many of the RV bloggers, podcasts and magazines are talking about the lack of campgrounds, the fullness of campgrounds and the lack of upkeep in campgrounds. At the same time the RV industry is growing. Why do you need to stay in a campground while you are on your journey? Because your overnight stop is someone else's destination. Your destination is someone else's overnight. The more money you stop paying to campgrounds while you overnight for free, the less money RV campground owners have to expand and improve. WE buy our own campground improvements and expansions.

I have NEVER Wally Docked (or Cracker Barrelled, Cabelaed, etc.)
Parking lots are not my thing.

Back when TIME was an issue I have shut it down at Rest Areas.
Then again.........FREE so no complaining

Course I have NO issues sleeping. Learned skill----from long hours, rotating shifts, working straight thru until job done. Time to sleep---I sleep!
Agreed

Here in Southern California I see semis pulled over on extra wide shoulders of not only interstates but in town freeways.
I never see a motorhome.
Anyone know what California law in this is?

If Wal-Mart charged for camping I would pay.
Close to freeway and usually restaurants.
easier to find than most campgrounds.
Easy to park.
Most open 24 hours.
Park, go in use bathroom, shop for groceries/camping stuff needed, buy hot prepared food, come back, eat, sleep, on the way in the morning.

Much better than showing up to a campground after hours.
Having to deal with night registration.
Having to find a campsite in the dark.
No store open if you need something.

When I get to my destination I camp in campgrounds.

Don't think I took too much money away from campgrounds in the middle of Nebraska.

Maybe a smart entrepreneur will start a franchise of freeway exit, no or limited hookup, basic overnight RV/Truck parking for low cost fast way to spend the night.
Large flat open spaces to park.
Metered credit card operated electric hook-up for a limited number of spots.
No water but a dump station.
Inexpensive so people will use.

We've travelled in our RV straight from Southern Ontario to see family in Los Angeles 8 times. Never ever needed a Walmart to spend the night! We've only ever stayed at Pilots/Flying J's/Loves overnight and never a problem and always a good night sleep then coffee, breakfast, clean bathrooms, fabulous showers, supplies and gas!
