What oil are you using in your honda 2000

Regular 10/30 or 5/30 or something labeled 4 cycle lawmower oil or such? Anyone using synthetics? Even though the instructions say 4 cycle oil, I'm assuming regular motor oil is the same, since car engines are 4 cycle. I only have about 6-7 hours on my unit, so if I'm usin gthe wrong stuff I'd like to know before doing any permanent damage. I changed it after the first 4 hours.

Hi Paul,

The dealer gave me a quart of Honda 5W30 when I bought my eu3000is... so that's what I used. I'm pretty sure that any 5w30 motor oil would work fine.

I would think an appropriate grade of synthetic oil would work well, after proper engine brake-in. From what I here, portable generator engines don't have a long life-expectancy, so using synthetic makes a lot of sense, and the cost is next to zip.

Look in the manual. My EU3000 said to use a particular grade of oil with certain charateristics ONLY. Oddly enough, the only place in the world I found that oil was a Honda dealer...

Using Mobil 1 10W30. It meets the specs in the owners manual so will see how it goes. Air cooled motors generally have higher oil temps than water cooled and this little Honda is very tightly cowled to keep noise down, so theoreticaly synthetics should be better I would think. Time will tell.

My pair only has a half-dozen hours of use so far, but I initially filled 'em with castrol 10w30. I plan to switch to mobil 1 after they're broken in. My car's only had synthetic oil since its first oil change, and at 124k miles the engine still sounds and runs nearly as well as the day I drove it home from the dealer. Twice, mechanics have commented on the pristine condition of the internal engine parts, I'm sold on synthetics for my gas engines. For my truck, though, 11 qts of synthetic oil every 5k miles is more expense than I think it's worth.

Brian if you adopt an oil testing program you will actually save money running synthetic. I run Amsoil 15W40 in a 99 Dodge along with a synthetic media filter and at 25,000 miles the oil test recommended no change needed. I did not have the guts to go past 25,000 miles. I changed the oil filter every 5,000 miles and tested the oil first at 5,000 then after I built up a little confidence I moved to 10,000
intervals. I pulled right at GCVW for 2 years and exceeded the limit by about 7,000 lbs for 1,800 miles never used any oil between filter changes, My point I used the truck ran it hard and the oil performed without flaw.I had 90,000
miles on hte truck when I sold it.

Paul: AMSOil has come out with a 0W40 oil for using in things like 4 stroke ATVs, Outboards, Generators, presently I'm using the 10W40, for spring/summmer/fall use, but my next change will be to the 0W40 for both Genny and Outboard

I am going to try a new oil in mine, Castrol 0W30. It is also known simply as "GC" short for "German Castrol", as it is made in Germany. I have seen some very good used oil analysis on this oil. One of it's outstanding properties is it's viscosity. It is a thicker oil closer to a straight 30 weight than M1. Plus it has a pour point of around -81F!!! As far as I know you can ONLY find this oil at Auto Zone.

I use Mobile 1 synthetic in mine.
However, no matter what oil is used, frequent oil changes are probably the most important thing one can do. No oil filter, hence the importance of keeping clean oil in it.

I just had my Honda in for servicing. I asked what oil to use and the dealer told me they use 10W30 in the Honda generators.

I have an older Honda 2300 I use 15-50 Royal Purple.... same as my Quad....mmmmmm guess it was just there... but the quad is ridin much harder and longer... so I have faith..

When I haul it is a 2003 FS2600 Weekend Warrior Full of toys.
Pulled by a 1997 F-350 4x4 Quad cab and inside a 2000 400EX+, LT80, LT160 (soon). Man what have I missed? Oh all the toys for the grandkids and a Kayak for Grandma.....
