The Marine Corps, like many branches of the military, is rich with history, and traditions.

Received in an email:

"Here's a little known bit of Marine Corps history: the reenactment of Pickett's Charge at Gettysburg in 1921 for President Harding. Generals Black Jack Pershing of the Army and Smedley D. Butler and John A. Lejeune were there with two battalions of Marines."

President Warren G. Harding watches "Pickett's Charge"

Time for some research.

My Grandfather was a Marine in this time frame.. must check the muster sheets and see if he was back from WESTPAC (China & PI) at this time. He did a lot of "Quantico time" in the 20s. My Grandfather was pretty sharp, I'll bet that if he was scheduled to march to Gettysburg that he had himself assigned to something else.

Dug up the family files.. He wasn't there.

June and August of 1922 (missing July) he was at MB Cavite PI.. having just returned from TAD with from Co "C" Marine Battalion Asiatic Fleet and Marine Battalion Asiatic Fleet, TAD (5 days) with 15 Reg US Army Tientain China. He didn't get to Quantico until March 1923.

If it's good enough for CMC, it's good enough for me.

When we moved to Tarawa Terrace (as a kindergartner) we were told that it was pronounced like learn.. just like the above link states.
