Any Members at Davis Monthan Fam Camp

Looking to head out to AZ next month and was wondering if any members are currently at Davis Monthan Fam Camp, or have been there in the recent past.

Looking for info on Fam Camp and area. It has been more than 20 years since we've been to the Tucson area so I know there have been lots of changes. Didn't stop at DM back then as i went on up to Piacho Peak.

Thanks - Richard

Haven’t been there recently but it is rated about the best in DOD year end and year out. Haven’t stayed there because it is always full this time of year. To get in one must go to a dry camping area and get on the list for FHUs. The time one can stay in full hook up is limited ( maybe 2 weeks but not sure) then you have to go out and come in new again. Dry camping may be getting smaller as they convert dry spots to full hook up sites about every summer. No question a very nice RV park by any standard. We usually just stay at Pima county fair grounds. Which is not far from DM.

We were there for 3 weeks just before Christmas. It was beginning to fill up with snowbirds but we only had to stay in overflow for one night. We were number 3 in overflow so we were able to get into full hookups the next day. Went to the office the next morning and when our number was called they showed us what sites were available. If internet is important look on map for antennas and get as close as possible. I was unaware of that and got a site where a tree blocked reception so I had NO base internet while there but did have my phone hotspot. I'd go back there in a flash. As they say--try it you'll like it.

We were there in December 2018 for one and a half weeks. Very large, clean, seemed fine, close to Commissary and BX.

Under stand the number of days that was limited for a stay without moving out to dry camping and getting on waiting list to move back to FHU has changed. Now can stay longer, forget how long, if you pay for the entire time for the stay in advance. Forget how long can stay now, but it is significantly longer than before.

A side question. Is the AF frequent camper program still alive and current?

Was last there in March 2017 and if I remember correctly, you could stay as long as 6 months at that time if you wanted to pay the cost. While it is a fine park, it wasn’t worth what they wanted for extended stays. We love the area and had just spent two months in Benson @ the SKP Co-op Park and stopped in Tucson for a few days to continue our visits with old friends and places having spent 4 years there while stationed at DM.
So - bottom line - OK for a short dry camp stay but there are better options all things considered.
