So you are saying veterans should be denied benefits and charged with destruction of goverment property because the smoked and consumed ethanol?
My late wife lived there with her marine husband. He died in Nam. So our servicemen and their families make terrible sacrifices.
Lots of people judge the past with the benefit of 20/20 hindsight. In the context of WWII, Korea, the cold war and atomic weapons; few of us considered that dumping solvent out the back door would contaminate drinking water wells 15 years later. Not that we could have measured it at the time.
I was in the nuclear navy from 1970 to 1980 and benefited from ALARA. Our exposure was kept as low a reasonably achievable. Since x-ray machines were used in WWI a hundred years ago, we still do not know the effects of low levels of radiation.
Some people interpret keeping the exposure levels low because we can as an indication indication that it is dangerous. The safe drinking water limits for things like lead, mercury, and arsenic are higher because they are natural. This gives a data base to determine harmful levels.
The bottom line here is that there is no evidence that goverment is mistreating veterans or their families. I would appear that the VA is acting with a high degree of caution.
