They are still DOD funded, although some in congress would like to move them into social entitlements to have more control.

And while retired you receive that reduced compensation because you are still subject to recall to active duty. --- Gotta be a time limit there somewhere........

As I stated in another post. Our problem will be both dems. and republicans their both out to get us. Makes it a little difficult which one to choose on election day. I have often said put the republicans and Dems, in the washing machine and they all come out smelling the same....

If Hooligan's comments are true, then I should not be drawing any medical "compensation" because I'm NOT subject to recall. The law is different for officers and NCOs, certainly regarding the ages. I'm not positive what it was for me, but I think I received my last form letter when I turned 59 telling me I was no longer eligible for recall.

So call it what you want - compensation or entitlement - but there are several classes of folks (retired, injured, etc.) who SHOULD get the medical benefits we were promised with no strings attached.

The years we endured away from family and country cannot even be compared to a civilian job. The living conditions in many instances would not even be endured by civilian personnel. Congress needs to look at how they throw money at projects with no oversight or punishment for wasting it. Projects always go over budget and Congress just shells out more. This practice needs to STOP. Contractors must be held financially responsible for not meeting contract goals. The military veteran is not a scape goat for Congress's foul-ups. Write them and let them know it even if you think it doesn't effect you directly. Lets not screw future veterans out of what little is earned.
I would suggest actually writing them a letter rather than sending emails. A written letter is much more effective.

The increase in cost is not for Tricare Standard, it is for Tricare Prime. Tricare Prime is the HMO style insurance. Tricare for Life is currently free but it is true that the various committees are looking at an annual enrollment fee for TFL to help balance the budget. It has been suggested that $200 a year with some formula for annual increases. Once again, the country's military and veterans are being asked to sacrifice. TREA (The Retired Enlisted Association) is my source for this info.

Read the TRICARE plans for the latest information. Triple E is correct, TFL prime is raising premiums for those who join after Oct. 1. 2011.
