The US House has already passed and now the Senate has passed this dispicable law.
It's against the UCMJ. Separate barracks? This can of worms will never go away.
Then again, maybe I worry too much. (that to stop any responses that I worry too much)
Kerry
Just think; Never again will our military leader be able to raise their voice, as it may hurt someone's(?) feelings. Think it's funny? Just wait.

I dont think there will be that many problems after things settle down. I am quite sure there were gays when I was in the Army, and what a soldier does off duty really shouldnt matter. What they do while on duty and how they do it shouldnt/wont change at all.

Speaking as one of the first people who were kicked out because of that crazy policy (people always forget the Don't Pursue piece of that which has been ignored for the past 17 years), nothing is going to change. Just like I did in my 8 years in the military it was about the military and the job, not being gay.

It has not been an issue with other armies, including the Israeli. For the most part it is not with ours either. The cost of those trained and lost because of DADT is in the billions. I am heterosexual and frankly don't care who anyone else is interested in for cuddling as long as they do their job well.

Ok, just what does the new rule say? Please explain it.
DADT did not work that well as I recall.. What is needed on this issue is a "Who Cares, We Don't" rule.

As a Tanker, I would not want one of those people in my crew either in combat or during field problems.
And for you "newbies", I spent 22 years in the Army!

"those people" ??? It is really sad at the amount of bigotry, hatred and bias in this country. At least it seems to be improving. Last poll I saw was over 70 percent wanted this policy done away with.

As A 20 yr retiree from the Navy I don't see a problem with DADT going away.

C'mon, folks.... It was a stupid law. There have always been armies, always been wars, and unless something really changed when I wasn't looking, there must have always been straights and gays serving together. Right? I'm hetero myself, but I served when there was no DADT, and everything was fine. Where the hell did it even come from and why? The whole deal is too weird.

Any military member who thinks that gay service members were a danger to the unit...all I can say is that I knew MANY service members who were gay in the Army, Navy, Air Force, and Marines populations I served in. So long as the person did his or her job to the best of their ability and kept their hands to themselves, I worked alongside them without reservation.
People, the same arguments against gays in the military were used before 1947 to justify segregation in the ranks. Integrated armed forces were not the end of the American military, in fact some of our greatest military leaders would not have reached their pinnacle of success if the forces were still segregated by race.
Those who feel uncomfortable with gays in the ranks, here's a wake-up call. There are gays in all walks of life. You work with them every day. You shop in stores with them, you eat in the same restaurants, worship in the same houses of worship, you can't avoid them. Get over it. It's about time this stupid law was tossed in the ashcan.

Pity. My sister was in the Naval Reserve, served honorably in the medical field. If you were injured in battle, would the first question out of your mouth as my sister attended to your needs have been "Are you gay?"
My sister has been a lesbian for 35 years.

I spent five years in the Army during VietNam, and never knew of anyone who was gay. But then, I wasn't looking....
