Famcamps when traveling with non military friends

My wife & I enjoy staying at MWR famcamps as much as possible. This fall we'll be traveling in our motorhome & another couple will be with us pulling their 5th wheel. They are not eligible to stay at famcamps.

I have sponsored friends into a famcamp one other time. That base required me to submit a lot of personal information (ss# for example) at least 10 days before arriving so they could do a complete background check. Not practical when moving every 4-5 days.

In trying to research this subject it seems I would have to call each famcamp office & also base operations since they all seem to have different rules/requirements to get on base & then register in the camp.

Does anyone have knowledge of an easier way to have friends join you in their RV at military famcamps?

I think all bases require ssn and DL (or other official ID) for visitors. Not sure of any way around that. Not familiar with the rules for the camping, but why not just for this trip stay outside the base camping?

It varies with the administration of each I think- some allow civilians.

Famcamps exist for active duty and dependents and retired military, I think its a stretch to expect them to accommodate your desire for cheap camping for your non-military friends.

38Chevy454, don't mind giving ss# & drivers license at the gate. It's the 10 prior that's the problem. No problem staying in commercial, state & national RV parks if that's our only option. We just like the military campgrounds. They are usually as nice, or nicer, then anything outside the gates & pricei is right.

Also most famcamps allow DOD civilians and retired DOD civilians.

Send a message via ICQ to TripleE
We were just traveling with non-retired veterans. Two couples were retired and one wasn't. I contacted the Famcamps I planned on staying at to make sure they accepted guests. As for getting them on base we did a wife swap. We stopped before we got to the base and one of the wives with an id traded places with the wife who didn't. We didn't have a problem at any of the bases we stayed at. Of course, they couldn't leave the base by themselves, they needed one of us to get back on.
