I have noticed that to many of you are spending to much time on the forum. This in turn, keeps me busy trying to read all the "information" that you post. So I am going to return the favor and give you something to keep you busy for a little while. Maybe I can rest tomorrow evening.

Back in 1980 my company sent me to the big town of Chambersburg PA, about a half hour from Gettysburg. One of our weekends there a bus was rented for anyone that wanted to tour Gettysburg. The first stop we made was to pick up our own personal guide. The gentleman was in his 80s at the time and totally made the day worthwhile.

He'd been born in Gettysburg and lived there all his life. There wasn't anything he didn't know of the battle or the history of the town. As we drove from one site to another he'd point out bullet riddled walls around upper story windows and cannon balls still stuck in the side of homes and businesses in buildings that have survived since the battle.

I couldn't tell you how much we paid for his service, but I'd highly recommend anyone visiting, with more than just a passing interest, hire one too. As I said, he made the trip more than worth taking.

I've been to Gettysburg twice and most recently to New Market Andersonville, and Vicksburg. Looking forward to more trips to CW battlefields. Just this past weekend my wife and I visited the battlefield at Eutaw Springs which dates back to 1781. A most inconclusive decision which helped pave the way for the defeat of the British in North America. If only one thing was learned here by the US forces was to keep you eye on the objective. The River Road seen on the battle map is the current old state road 6 which is in daily use today.

British Major John Majoribanks, a commander of the forces engaged, is now buried in the Eutaw Springs battlefield memorial when his original grave was flooded by the rising of Lake Moultrie.

I have been told that there have been more Revolutionary war battles fought in South Carolina than any other state.
