Thank you for sharing.

I cannot sit and watch videos like this, or visit The Wall, without a profound buildup of sadness. Sadness for the 55000 plus lives that were lost, sadness for the heartless throngs of people spitting on the returning veterans. Sadness for the traitorous acts of media personnel. Sadness for being let down by the you know who's.

I tremble, I cry.

Well said, Wayne! I remember well, back in the mid 60's when I was active duty Army how we were looked upon by many folks as we traveled through airports, train stations, etc. I also recall after I became a police officer in south Florida, the riots and acts of civil disobedience that took place, mainly because of the Viet Nam war and the lack of support and respect from a partly ungrateful nation.

How different is was, after I had joined the US Coast Guard as a ready reservist and getting called up for Desert Storm, the change in attitude of the media liberals, government officials and the general public. Lessons learned from the disgraceful treatment Viet Nam vets received from so many people.

Difficult to watch. The images in the background brought me right back. His words say that he wants to let it go but his emotions say something else. He can't let it go, it's a part of him. You can say "DI DI MOA" all you want but it doesn't go away.

Wayne, I think I understand how you feel. I had a job that took me to DC about once a month for about 15 years almost always with someone who had not seen the memorials and monuments. I probably made it to the Lincoln Memorial almost every trip and to the Wall area but I made it down to the Wall only on my last trip - figured it would be my last chance - and it was very hard on me and I will NOT do it again when or if the opportunity arises.

That is not a very fair statement. Myself and many others have disabilities from that war and it is very hard to forget. Visiting the wall was a way of showing respect. I don't need a wall to remember and I know no one else who fought does either. Just last night I re-fought a few battles and watched my friends die next to me. Everyday and night I remember the war and the guys who fought. As I sit here typing I have a searing pain in my lower back from a souvenir I got in that war and it's still in there reminding me always. The wall for me is too emotional to do as many others have stated.

I view the wall as something to show others who did not fight, who were not born yet or who may have forgotten what it was all about. It's a salute to brave people who gave all they had so others could enjoy what they have now. No, I don't need a wall to remember or pay my respects but I'm glad it's there....
