Hey Stanbnv,
My first work detail after Cape May was down in the engine room of the Boutwell just before she left for Nam in 70. I was sent to Curtis Bay to resurect the Evergreen after a massive egine room fire. Spent six months there before heading out for two International Ice patrols,(Fun time,...not). I finally got sent to Governors Island after two years of sea time. And yes, the water was deep! Never saw a NAVY ship in rough waters! We told em to stay in until weather improved,(?)

And THEN add several hundred enemy aircraft, ships, missiles, lurking submarines, etc., etc., all trying to sink you and you have a ride with the USN.
