Hearing Aids

After a long drawn out process the VA has finally awarded me 10% disability for hearing problems. I have had the hearing test and am scheduled for a what I believe they called a counseling session on March 7th. Can anyone who has been through this tell me roughly how much longer it will take before I actually get my hearing aids? We are planning to hit the road soon but I sure don't want to leave until I have them. I realize times vary from clinic to clinic but just interested in what others have experineced.

mine was pretty fast
they may do a mri of your head first to confirm you have any issues inside the skull.
doctor did the hearing test to confirm the issues
then she tried a few devices for fit
we decided on one, she ordered it
went back about 7 days later and she programmed it and showed me how to work it.

batteries and parts are mail order out of colorado and you have them shipped anywhere

for me it was pretty quick

They ordered my Hearing Aids the same day as the hearing test. Went back in two weeks for fitting and programming. Only required one follow up visit for fine tuning.

That appointment should be the day you get the aids, they will schedule a follow-up, I cancelled mine I was good with how everything was going.
Pittsburgh VA has a walk in day for issues if needed.

Bluetooth

Since you have a service connected condition there will be no copay. The hearing aids will be ordered the day of your audio appointment since they do not stock any devices. Usually takes a week for the devices to show up. They try to make your fitting appointment and shipping date match as close as possible. Ask the doctor to consider a bluetooth adapter. That will give you the ability to pair up to five devices (smart phone, tablet, computer, tv) to your hearing aids. I was able to get the device and it works beautifully. I am able to get cell calls, stream music and watch videos/receive audio through my hearing aids. There is usually a follow-up appointment 30 days later. You will receive a survey in between that will allow you to cancel the follow-up appointment. Good luck..

I left out our hospital in bonham has a friday walk in day for adjustments and the like.
a friend has the bluetooth hearing aid, it works with his phone and both ears get the call right to his head.
he said it helps alot with the background buzz of white noise.
it even has a setting called "wife" which allows him to tune her out

mine really has helped, it blocks or softens the ringing and background drown out

Thanks everyone. Sounds like this will only take a little bit longer.

I gotta have the ones with the wife setting for sure.

This has been an on again off again battle for several years. I am so glad to finally get this settled. I was fortunate enough to find an advocate with the State of Oregon who was able to help me. I would never recommend anyone try to get through this alone.

Ask for the tv doohickey. Listen to tv through your hearing aids with the tv volume turned all the way down. The brand I received were "Resound". Outstanding with all of the before mentioned Bluetooth capabilities. Can even create favorite settings and have your hearing aids change settings a block before reaching a destination.. Outstanding as far as I'm concerned.

After you get them you will notice:
Your wife yells at you all the time
She make lots of noises
Your car and house make noises and you will wonder why your wife never mentioned it.

I like the "mute" mode. Works well at family gatherings.

When they tested me they told me I was deaf in the ranges of gunfire, turbine engines, women and small children's voices. I asked them to put that in writing, and they did! Wife said that explained a lot.

I have the blue tooth and the remote. The St. Paul VA was pretty slow. Six weeks to get in and another six weeks to get the aids. I understand they now have a walk in program for adjustments.

I don't wear them all the time, only when I think I need them or the wife throws a shoe at me and yells to put them in cause she's talking to me.
