Guess I'd say yeah or thanks. Even motels where I use military rate never bother asking for military ID or mentioning the military.
Thank you ALL for your service! I love the note-under-the-windshield idea, and will try to put that to good use.

Leland I apologize for the lack of appreciation that you and all other vets have been shown, and even more for the outright disrespect that some folks displayed.

Signed, just a civilian...

I always say, "Thanks, it was an honor to serve" because it's true. And welcome home, to you and all your 'nam brothers. You done good.

When someone says, "Welcome home", I am gracious and say "Thank you", but it is not necessary to welcome me home from my prospective. I answered when my country called and was the best soldier I could be, so no "thanks" are even necessary. I believe the whole "welcome home" thing started after the Iraq War and is in part an expression of guilt on the part of those who supported the war.

I say thank you and it was an honor to serve as well. What a dramatic difference between my Vietnam return and Afghanistan return. I just appreciate the gesture. Some anonymous person bought me lunch one time and told the server to thank me for my service.

My response: It was my privilege to serve our country.

When I am thanked for my service, I say, "it was an honor to wear the uniform." I do not appreciate nor do I usually acknowledge the "welcome home" comments from civilians or ex GIs. I did my duty as I should have and am proud of that fact. I served two tours, one on the ground and one as a helicopter pilot. When I got home I was "welcomed" by my family, friends and other vets who were there with me, they are the ones that mattered. I chose to ignore the draft dodging, pot smoking hippies that failed to answer their country's call.

How about the pot smoking hippies who did answer the call?

I say thank you and I appreciate them thanking me for my service. Vet's are finally getting "some" recognition, well deserved of course, so I appreciate the aknowledgement from others...

I too have thanked those when I knew they served and not one of those 'draft dodging hippie types'
In fact, if I could identify THAT group, I'd be certain to tell them how much right-thinking Americans 'appreciate' their freedom of speech.

I don't usually look for recognition, but have been known to support with a meal - SMALL gesture, I know, but it's what I like to do...

It's past time to do the same with our police officers as their service is appreciated as well...
our toad still has the thin blue line on the rear window.

Thanks to all who serve the common good ! you ARE appreciated by this just a civilian!
