Stopped in to Texas Steak House for lunch on our return trip. Turns out they offer a 10% discount for Veterans. But they ask for a military Id. No problem for active or retired but is there an id available for former vets? I had to hand in my id when I separated. I don't want to cary a copy of my DD214.

They did give me the discount when I paid with my USAA master card.

How about a Tattoo.....I have one on my left arm, the kid at a restaurant gave us a discount because I was veteran (I thought it was an Old Farts Discount)
I said thank you and he said that all veterans get a discount.

I am probably the only Marine without a tatoo. Guess I was too worried that if I got a bulldog they would screwnit up and it might look like a poodle.

My wife told the server to take a look at the RV and he would have no doube. I just added the 10% t the tip and we will probably sto back next trip. Just nice to be appreciated.

I don't even remember getting mine...
I woke up and it was there.....the worst part was that when it was put there I was not of legal drinking age.

Some times I look at it and think what a fool I was to get it
But then I think about the guys I was in the Corps with so it all works out.

You should have heard my Dad he really got upset. Called me almost every name in the book and he would say and to think I spent 30 years in the US Navy and the only marks I have to show for it is the scare on my right shoulder!

Have your 214 miniaturized and laminated to CC size. It will still be readable too_ with glasses at our age.My cousin had his done and is happy with the result.

As said, go to the VA and get an id card with your picture on it. It may not have service connected on it, but you dont need that for most. Home Depot also gives a ten percent discount and orginally they gave it to all vets. Now they have changed and required a VA ID with service connected on it. Unfornunately mine says that.

Lowes in this area will give you one if you are wearing a military hat of any of the branches of service. I also had a friend wearing a hat that just said "Veteran," on it and he was given the discount. (He is a veteran) No ID required.

As much as I dont shop at lowes, there are 2 things they do correctly and very well: Give great discounts on 'scratch and dents', and treat a Veteran well and with respect

We were in Buffalo Wind wings and were paying with our USAA debit card and she asked if I was prior Military even had my retired Army hat on but she still asked, told her yes and got a nice discount. If you have any kind of ID you should always ask most places don't advertise cause other groups will ask why they can't have one too.

Got to love USAA. Most non-vets don't know what it is but I have yet to find another bank that comes close to customer service. Innate all my investments, insurance and most of my banking with them. Only thing they don't have is my home insurance. It is the only thing they are not competitive on.

I like to spend my weekends at Lowes but the DW now says I have to be chaperoned.

I like Ray's idea of stinking and laminating my 214.

Thanks everyone. And thanks for your service. I'm proud to be associated with you all!
