Kids and Fulltiming
My wife and I would like to start fulltiming in the next 6-9 months. I am on active duty and I am looking at retirement soon. We would like to get out of our house and rent it out and move into a luxury rv for the next few years. My wife is concerned about our 9 yr old girl getting picked on or made fun of because we would be living in an rv and not a house. I love the idea and cant wait but my wife has reservations because of the kids. I grew up not caring what others think about me but not everyone is that way. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Like you are soon to be, I'm retired military, and like you, I've spent the majority of my life and career not really caring what others think of me. It's the nature of the beast, but having been a single parent for several years, I cared deeply what others, his peers, thought about him and his being in a "motherless" family. Without knowing the child, it would be just short of impossible to answer that question for her. She would have to answer that question herself. In realizing that there are many who, by choice or economics, choose that life style and home school their children, I would not want to put children in an environment that might hinder their social development.

Take the kid to an RV show... let her see all the nice rigs... be sure to get one with two bathrooms. Tell her she will have her "Own" bathroom for make up and stuff. Get her the latest way cool smart phone and she will be the envy of the other kids who are stuck in one place..
Let her help in planning trips and destinations... if she has skin in the game she is less likely to pout.

in kids that age you have to look out for things like
social anxiety disorder..social phobia
more so if you home school them in the RV
dont ask how i know

"Take the kid to an RV show" I love the idea of what you said. We are planning a trip to go look at RV's this weekend and see what is out there. Your way of thinking makes a lot of sense. I guess I just need my wife to have buy in on it too. Thank you.

We plan on having her in a regular school so I am hoping that won't play a part. The part that concerns us is that kids at her school will pick on her because of living in a RV. I know how kids can be sadly. Our daughter is actually excited about the idea of full timing. I am just not sure how she will handle the naysayers. Thank you.

I've got to jump in here. We have 3 kids, ages 12, 10, and 8. My wife (I can't take any credit ) has homeschooled all three of them since day one, and we have heard all the "socialization" concerns from countless people. My kids are some of the most socially comfortable and adjusted children that I know. The stereotype of homeschoolers as socially inept and pathologically introverted is frankly insulting. Are there awkward homeschoolers out there? Yup. Are there awkward kids that go to public school? Yup.
Ok. Rant over.
Now my 2 cents on the OP's question.
Kids these days get picked on for any reason. My kids get picked on because they are homeschooled. My son gets picked on because he doesn't play sports. I got picked on because my name is Jeff and it rhymed (kinda) with Jiffy peanut butter.
None of it is overwhelming. My kids answer by saying that they do school in their pjs and get to take awesome vacations in their RV when it's not hot and crowded. We have taught them how to handle it. Do they still get upset sometimes? Yup. Am I sometimes tempted to strangle the little brat who lives down the street? No comment. But we realize that the choices we have made are for the benefit of our family. And we wouldn't change what we do for any reason.
So, my advice is this. Do what you and the DW think is best for your family. Your daughter might get teased because her house is different than what other kids live in. But those kids may change their tune when they see that "different" house pull off to some incredible location for a week or so.

To clarify, I am not saying that anyone who posted earlier was stereotyping homeschoolers. I guess I needed to get some stuff off my chest.
Sorry if I hijacked, OP.

homeschooling
Thank you so much for the words. I love your view on things and the way you handle it. I am hoping that we can be the same way. Your right about all kids getting picked on about something. I guess there is really no way around it. I guess I need to find the best class a for my family. I am really having a hard time finding one that offers an extra room or area for my daughter. We are trying to give her her own space but class a don't offer much in that area. I noticed a lot of fifth wheels do but that is not the route we are going. Though, I love some of the floor plans. I just don't want to go get another vehicle also to pull it. If any of you know of a great class a that offers something other than bunk beds I am all ears. Thanks again to everyone who replies. Any reply, bad or good, is very helpful.

For the bunk beds, it really depends on price range but in your initial post you mentioned "luxury rv" so here are a few DPs with bunks available.
I'd look at the Newmar Dutch Star 4312 or 4313 (without having seen either, my preference would be the 4312 because of the 2 bathrooms. Newmar also has bunks in Ventana 4315 and Mountain Aire (and up) 4599. Fleetwood has bunks in Discovery 40G, Expedition 38B, Excursion 35E. American Coach will install bunks at the factory in custom ordered Revolution 42T and Eagle 45T. Tiffin has Phaeton QKH and Allegro RED 38 QBA.
There are others and there are tons of gas powered ones.

5th wheel or toyhauler
After much research and deliberation with my wife we have decided against the MH and go with either the 5th or toy hauler. Our main reason is room and trying to live in it full time. We are hoping it will be a good transition for the family. I am not sure what will happen as of yet but just being on this site has opened my eyes up a lot. Thank you to everyone for your input. Now I just have to narrow it down to a 5er or TH.

I say try it and if it does not work out, move back in to your house when the lease is up on the renters. I too am retired military and would love to full time, but with a 1 year old i was told i have to wait 17 more years.......... but the summers will be fun!
