Received a letter from some outfit called SAIC that states some computer back up tapes were stolen out of a vehicle in Texas and therefore we are being given (free) a one year subscription to Kroll INCs ID Theftsmart service. They then give you instructions on enrolling on line. Anyone heard of this?? Being curious I went on line and they are asking for SSN and other info, backed out of it. Anyone else seen this.

We got a call today from a guy claiming to represent Humana Insurance and offering us a no copay option on generic drugs.

In order to "confirm" who he was talking to, he needed my wife's birthdate. About that time I thanked him for his call and said we weren't interested. It might have been legit, but I didn't want to take the chance.

I also got one of the letters about SAIC here in Vegas. I am retired military and I have subscribe to military.com and have for years. There was email notification and information on this posted today I'd suggest give the 1-800 number a call tomorrow. I'm going to call them even though I already have a credit monitoring program.

Check the following link:

Not sure if this one is legit. Probably not. If it is legit and if they have anything to do with the military or the VA they already have your SSN and would not be asking for it. A few years ago a laptop computer belonging to the VA was stolen that contained personnel information on a lot vets. Myself included. I got a letter from the VA telling me about this incident. It was legit. I was given specific instructions on what to do and giving them my SSN was not part of it.

I would think we would be notified by Tricare if our info had been stolen and what the options are. Sure sounds like a scam.

Usually that is the case.

The company that had the records stolen (Tricare) offers the one year protection to those whose records were potentially compromised (a common practice). I'd tread softly until you can confirm directly FROM Tricare that this is the next step and get the contact info for the next step directly from Tricare.

The contact methods you describe has scam written all over it as it did NOT originate from Tricare (even though it quotes factual info).

That is correct. Our medical records were stolen and the company that had the records provided the one year of monitoring service. However the offer came through the company that was comprised. In this case , it would be Tricare.

OK Folks, OP here. Called TFL and yes the letter is on the up and up. We had this happen before but it was the wifes hospital records(no Tricare involvement). We were given a free year of credit monitoring, but I don't recall having to provide a SSN to register. Tricare didn't lose the records, an employee of SAIC lost them, of all places, in Texas. Can't help but wonder how many folks are working with my SSN. That may not be funny.

Just to confirm the confirmation we confirmed it too with Tricare and our providers. We did the online setup and enrolled. Once done you will see nothing that really explains it. Check your email and the company sends the way it works as soon as you enroll in email.

Just some more info....if you are a member of FMCA they offer a credit monitoring program for $6.95 month...well worth it just for the free credit reports and monthly credit monitoring sent to your email address if there has been any activity on your credit reporting co., plus credit ins., and even anti-virus software all included! No, I don't work for FMCA haha
