I was reading Nick Russel's Bolg Gypsy Journal. Well Nick was saying he got 10% off at Lowes with his VA card.
Well today I had to pick-up some stuff so I asked at customer service. The girl didn't know nothing but called the store manager. Well I got my 10% off. All I did was show my VA card. The girl at the regester knew all about it,when I asked about it. They said it's a secret discount. Well I guess I can't keep a secret. When I asked the cashier what can I use it for she said everything in the store. WOW Think I'll be a Lowes shopper.

Thanks for the tip. I have always like shopping at Lowes. The store by our house is always well stocked and the items are in the tray or space they should be in. The people walking the isles are also very helpful and I don't have to walk all over the store trying to find someone to help me.

Lowe's, Home Depot and Bass Pro Shop gives military discounts. I found that out one day I rode my motorcycle to Bass Pro Shop and my CAC card was visible on the jacket. Just no discounts on ammunition. No worry.

Here in the Albuquerque area Home Depot gives a discount to any vet. Just show proof of service. You do need to ask for it at the register.

We try to make it a habit of showing our military ID for ID at any store just in case they do give a discount. I found out that some of the stores in outlet malls offer military discounts by accident when the clerk saw my ID in my wallet when I was digging for money.
I now have my military ID in the driver's license spot in my wallet so it is easily seen.
Remember to also ask for your discount for your cell phones.

I am a veteran; USAF 1965-1971, honorable discharge, and have DD214. How do I go about getting an ID card? I applied for VA benefits, and was told that I do not qualify. I guess I feel that there should be some way to get an ID card, and not go walking around with a DD214.

Normally VA ID cards are issued when elgebility for benefits are determined. If you have not checked recently(within the last year), the elgibility rules have changed and it might be a good idea to check back with them.

I carry the letter sent to me from the county for tax assement. Here in NM Vets get a $4000 reduction in the apprased value of our primary residance and that seems to satisfy both Lowes and the Home Depot.

I am Retired USAF and carry a Grey Retired Card. Active Duty carries a Green Card. Dependents carry a Beige Card.I believe you would not be issued a card for just serving.

Why not join the American Legion or VFW and carry their card.

That's a good idea, and one I had not thought of, at least regarding military vet discounts. But in the meantime, I can tell you all that I made a reduced-size copy of my DD214, and have tried it both in H.D. and Lowes, and they accept it and give a 10% off any purchase.
