MacDill FamCamp

Does anyone have experience with the Macdill FamCamp? According to the military campground website it says to make reservations as much as a year in advance. When I called today I was told to call no more than 14 days before planned arrival. That certainly does not make it possible to plan effectively.

Anyone I should talk to about this?

MAFB allows long term seasonal site rental from Oct 1 - Apr 1 (6 mos). Reservations go fast. This year (Oct 2014) I drove up and was 2nd in line and put my reservation in for Oct 2015. It also requires a deposit.
They do keep a portion of the sites for short term reservations (up to 14 days). The sites can be reserved up to 14 days in advance but during season (Oct - Apr) and high season (Jan -Mar) it is like anything else in FL--hit or miss.
Once April comes along and up to Oct 1st it isn't hard to get a spot on MAFB or any place else in FL for that matter.
Hope this helps.

I'm wintering in Punta Gorda, FL in a rental home, not in the RV. Had to go to MacDill this past Friday to get my wife's ID card renewed. We drove through the FamCamp. I don't know about the reservation policy but it has a ton of sites and it was packed. I didn't see any open sites. The sites are very close together.

I called out there a few weeks ago and was told the only thing available was dry camping. Not sure if that is still available or not.

Thanks Don, exactly the information I needed. This is the kind of information they should have on the website but I could not find anything there about reservation policy or procedures.

Enjoy where you are. Winter has returned to SC with a vengeance and is supposed to get down to 22 tonight with strong winds.

I know the web site can be a little confusing. Try and navigate to the monthly news letters about rec services as well as the camp ground info. If you publish that you have a waiting list to get in each year people will stop trying to come so you can understand why they are vague. It is a nice campground. Yes it is a little close but you are close with "your people" and isn't that what we all miss most about our military career?

Sorry your weather sucks.... enough said, I won't rub it in.
