That's been in the works for a little while now. I think they will end up doing it unless funding for the Exchanges is some how affected. Good news.

We have used the mail order site a few times since I retired. At least they have a real person that will help when needed a good selection of home goods. Prices are not great, in my opinion but if they don't add on state tax it might help.

You really have to be careful in the BX/PX. There are some good deals and some horrible deals. Most normal "stuff" is cheaper at Walmart.

Since we stay all winter on base RV park. We have noticed that same items carried by Exchange and Commissary are sold at same price. With exchange being marked 5% higher, which matches Commissary pricing. Recent Navy Time's had a piece that said savings at commissary are no longer 30-40%, but less then 20% now.
I know its no longer cost effective to drive greater distance to shop on base.

We live 5 miles from a Naval Air Station and we really don't use the Commissary/Exchange much at all. The Commissary adds the extra 5% to everything and the Exchange here doesn't carry much we are interested in and their pricing can be beat at Wal-Mart.

Not much of a deal. Exchange prices are not that great. Plus they seem to carry older stuff.

What all the posts are saying may be why the BX/PX needs all veterans to shop just to stay in business. If those of us who are eligible don't use the exchange/commissary then they need to do something to increase their business. I don't want them to disappear. Remember when you were overseas and needed them? Our AD today still needs them.

I always find it funny how a Original posting can migrate into a completely different subject. Yes I know I am guilty.

Send a message via ICQ to TripleE
This starts for Vets on Veterans Day. It is only for online shopping it does not include on base shopping. Go to http://www.aafes.com for info. You have to get your status verified but that is an easy step.

Itay be a good deal for the vets. It pays to shop around and if a vet can get a good price on an item, then it helps both AD and the vet.

I work on Moody AFB and only use the commissary for meats.

I attempted to buy a printer at the BX recently using their price matching. I got to the register and showed them that the printer was cheaper at Best Buy. They called Best Buy and said because the printer wasn't on the shelf at Best Buy they wouldn't honor the lower price. I walked out and left the printer on the counter. I don't even look at the BX now for items after I learned they have this bait and switch tactic.
