I bought some stuff today at Menards. I showed my gray card and asked for the Military discount. The checkout person said Menards stopped honoring it because police and firemen protested it was not available to them. Oh well, it was good while it lasted.

Not that good, all these years I've used them as my #1 store and that's the first I've heard of a military discount

Home Depot and Lowe's still honor our veterans with a 10% across the board discount.

Chuck i don't know how true it is, just what I was told at the register. I respect our LEO's and firemen and do not cast dispersions on them. IMO- A 10% discount is something offered not expected.

I was in Home Depot in Harlingen, TX today and they are no longer honoring Military Discount also. Showed my grey card and was told they only do it on Memorial day and Veterans Day.

It would be hard for me to believe that Firemen and/or Police would complain that the military were getting discounts and not them. Especially since so many were ex military. Where I live in So Cal many of the local business's give discounts to both Fire and Police. If the big box stores don't want to extend a little courtesy, shame on them. I guess they figure they will never have a fire or need help from the police.
I did not mean to imply in my post that I did not respect the fire or police or the job they do. Sorry if it was taken that way.

Just came from the Home Depot in Ft Myers Florida. They honor the 10% discount and have a card at each register displayed so the cashier knows exactly what the ID card should look like. Cashier even thanked me for my service.
