Interesting prospective on where we stand in regards to future military budget reductions IMO, we active/retired/VA are going to see reductions in our retirement and medical benefits. Once our leaders in Congress make all the 'easy' cuts, the military is not going to escape the increased scrutiny of the budget cutters. Then, its a matter of supporting the troops with new equipment/technology or funding an ever expanding retirement/medical budget. As Howard Dean said last night, "It's a simple matter of redistribution of wealth and it's long overdue"! According to Dean former DNC Chairman, you have the haves and the have-nots and the range between has widened over the past 20 years. To narrow that gap you must take benefits from those that have them and provide them for free or at low cost to the people that do not, it is the fair thing to do!

Not a political statement, just what he said!

Jim, unfortunately forum rules prohibit my response on Howard Dean's remarks. We've lost so much of what this great country stood for and the values many of us grew up with. Its a damn shame when our children aren't allowed to pray in school or recite the "Pledge of Allegiance" for fear of offending someone. Yet, we allow the far right to dictate these asinine restrictions and others.

I'm pretty sure that you meant far Left, I agree.

There are many things that are financially unsustainable going forward from where we are. That being said, no group have ever given so much for our country as it's Veterans. Some things are earned and some are given. In the case of Veterans, they have earned like no other group, a hands off approach to benefits.

I am not a Veteran, however, I support all of the benefits they receive and consider them sacred.
