New Tricare charges in the budget

The President's budget for DOD has out of pocket increases for Tricare.
Family coverage for Prime would increase to $2048 per year for the higher pay grades. Increases also for Tricare Standard/ Extra. Tricare for Life would have a first ever enrollment fee applied.
(When we were moved to Medicare with TFL as secondary the promise was there would be no fees applied. Medicare was reimbursed for our care and Tricare costs went down)
There are also significant cost increases proposed for Prescription drug coverage.
As in prior years, these are proposals and must be approved by Congress and hopefully they will be reduced or eliminated before the DOD budget is passed. (Election results may have an effect)

Full story here : TRICARE in the Budget Cut Bullseye

FWIW I have not heard or read any mention of this on any of the main stream media, except Fox news.

Is anyone who followed the enactment of the "Affordable Health Care Legislation" surprised?

No, I am not surprised. The goal is to get everyone into Obamacare, regardless of our desires. Two more years to TFL.

Write your Congressman

I hope you are writing to your Congressman and Senators to protest these increases and attempt to protect our promised benefits.

I'm starting to think I wasted 21 years of my life in the Army, only to get thrown under the bus.

The Military Officers Association has a prepared email and/or letter to send to your elected officials in Congress. The prepared text is editable to put in your own comments if you want. The form addresses the e-mail to the correct representatives for the state you designate..

This is Deplorable. Do they really think we are over paid and over compensated?

I must be grossly over compensated. TSgt, 21 years, yep, I'm filthy rich. Let's tax him some more.

Can't say I get it... I'm a 54 year old veteran, a small business owner, a father of 3.

I pay a thousand dollars a month for private health insurance.
67% of my income goes to taxes. Yes, SIXTY SEVEN PERCENT. 36% federal income tax. 18% SS and medicare (plus the half of my employee's that I have to pay, not even counting that) 5% Illinois income tax, 7.75% sales tax on anything I happen to have left to spend. Plus another $18,000 on property taxes, on properties that are worth half what they were worth 3 years ago... but the taxes don't go down...

And when I retire... I'll only get whatever I manage to save, out of the 33% of my income I get to live on...

I'm not real sure what you retirees are bitching about.

If you are a veteran, but not a retiree, at some point you decided that the military and all the awesome benefits were not for you. Others stayed in for years, in my case over 30, putting up with frequent moves, sub-standard pay, never building up equity in a home, etc. At some point in our careers we were told our dependents could no longer use the military health facilities, but we would be put on what became Tricare. Fees have continued to go up for what used to be free, to the point that they exceed cost of living increases. Oh and did I mention the opportunity to spend multiple tours in areas where the locals tend to shoot at you and blow you up?

So in a nutshell, that is what we retirees are "b!tching" about.
