My father was a Marine and told me about the infamous "Marine shower", which is nothing like a "Navy shower". The Marine shower consisted of splashing on a liberal amount of cologne instead of using soap and water.

Guess that stuff you mentioned would be just the thing.

Loved that article that mentioned the U.S. Navy Alphabet Book. Some of the Navy guys I knew could have used that.

Looked at it and was disappointed in the smell, I was expecting web gear, fatigues, rifle oil and cosmoline (sp?) and boot dye and polish.

Ah! Ray! You brought back some memories. We called in Instant Shower. Nothing like the navy shower, you know, your body and you can wash it as fast as you please.

It's funny how you can be around 40 guys who smell like goats and you don't even notice.

I think our sense of smell goes on leave until about two days before its time to come out of the field and return to our families.

Try 30 days in the field in Germany during the winter with 3 other guys in a tank. You Jarheads had it made. At least you could put some distance between you and your great smelling buddy.

I think the Marine Cologne should be called "Brute!"

Only Marines will get that one.

To many trips through the gas chamber will definitely dull your sense of smell

He was on the road to Commandant, a "shoe in" , until he told LBJ what was being done wrong in Viet Nam..

Pretty good Gyrine trivia for a retired P-3 Sailor..

Good call Joe. I would have liked to have seen him make Commandant.

I was actively involved with General Krulak back in 1966-67 time frame. Although I never met him during that time, I was charged with setting up communications for him when ever he left Camp H. M. Smith, HI, and flew to Vietnam. I spent 187 (Not all at once) days out of 365 on top of the hill at Camp Smith, communicating. I can tell you this. He took no BS. There are some stories there, for sure, but I just have to get the little man of many little men to come forward in my head and tell me what they are.

Semper Fi!

If memory serves me right, General Krulak was the Commander at MCRD SD, when I went through in 61.

Sgt Joe,
You are correct. I was attending Radio Morse Code school when he was there. I was in school from January 1961 through about May or so.
