Our PC Army

Our PC Army is at it again.* Here is the latest:

" For the first time in U.S. Army Forces Command history, a woman will be leading the largest command in the Army, representing 776,000 soldiers and 96,000 civilians. GEN Robert B. "Abe" Abrams, FORSCOMíS current commander, is leaving to become commander of U.S. Forces Korea. He will relinquish command to LTG Laura J. Richardson, who will then become the first female Army officer to officially hold that position."

For the civilians that read this, and ex GIs who have been out of the service for a long time, Forces Command (FORSCOM) contains all Army combat forces in North America....all the Divisions, Corps, Rangers, Special Operations, etc.* In years past, the CG would have been a hard charging, battle hardened officer, who had spent most of his career in units.* The officer she is replacing is the youngest son of Gen Creighton Abrams and has commanded at every level from company to division.* The elder Gen Abrams was a tanker in WW II who came to the aid of the 101st Airborne Division at the Battle of Bastogne in 1944.* He went on to be the CG of all forces in VN and Chief Of Staff of the Army.* I'm surprised Sec Def Mattis went along with this appointment.* Looking at her many ribbons, it's obvious she has spent very little time in the combat units she is about to command.

Here's a comment from an ex GI with whom I flew in VN:

"I'm not the brightest bulb in the lamp, but I would like somebody well up the chain of command tell me what is going on!* Unless the four stars currently running the show have totally forgotten what a real shooting war is like, at the junior officer level....what are they thinking???* I don't understand Mattis....he's the rough tough Marine...and lets a woman be CG of Forscom?* Somebody wearing four stars needs to demonstrate some intestinal fortitude and say, "ENOUGH no more PC!"* Did you notice her wings....had a star on them, meaning she did not have enough flight time to get Master Wings....1,500 vs 3,000 hours.* She had to have gone to flight school in the late 80s....so after 30 years she's still wearing Senior Wings...any aviator would be embarrassed."

If General Richardson can do the job, you shouldn't be hung up on her gender. Did they bypass anyone else more qualified to give her the position?

FORSCOM is not a combatant command. When those units deploy they report to a regional combatant command. No combat experience is necessary to command FORSCOM. It's mostly an administrative command. That doesn't diminish the importance of that command to our national security. I have every confidence in the new commander's abilities to fulfill the role.

So I just did a quick google search of LTG Richardson. She's been the deputy FORSCOM commander since June 2017. Now she is the acting commander since Abrams has already departed. She's in the running to be the permanent commander but has not yet been named to that position.

I guess some people are stuck in the past and can't recognize how capable women can be.

Remember all the arguments many years ago about the President of the U.S.A. not being a veteran or having served in combat, and overseeing a war? IMO this is the same situation- with the same results pending.

Not sure what you mean by, "IMO this is the same situation- with the same results pending."

Often the President during the most intense wars of our history did not have military experience. FDR never served in the military but was civilian Assistant Secretary of the Navy from 1913 to 1920, but he oversaw WWII. Lincoln was only in service for a few months during the Indian Wars of the 1830's, but he was leader during the Civil War. Wilson never served but oversaw WWI. Madison was President during the War of 1812 but never had military training.

Of 45 Presidents, 31 had military service ranging from 40 years (Taylor) to serving only for months were T. Roosevelt, Lincoln, Buchanan, and Tyler.

Politically correct, borders right up there with affirmative action.

I hear you brother but then again I came from an older Navy, no women onboard combat ships or any ship if I am correct, women could not even stay in if they got pregnant. As for the other things that come to mind, it would have never even been thought of. But hey, times change I ain't in no more and don't think there's a place for an old crusty sea dog like me any more.
