Sorry to hear about that, Robert. I'm still waiting on the concurrent receipt issue to be settled. I think I'll be waiting a long time.

They did not raise your taxes. During the last year of the Bush administration he lowered the withholding amount so more money would be available supposedly to slow down the downfall. That expired this March 1st. When you file your taxes it did not change a thing except what you had put away to pay them. My son works at DFAS and he was visiting and explained it to me when I asked.

O.K.! folks lets get this striaght,a new Pres come's along and says i cut your Taxes,I cut payroll taxes all people who voted for him go nut's saying" see we told you so",There is one problem as mentioned that is like Robert said a retainer fee from income wheather it be earned, retirement or what ever, but the tax on April 15th is the same total and maybe more or less depending on what was kelp out,if you get back then change your allowance on W-4! that way the Gov.doesn't have your money interest free for longer than you want them too!

Someone has to pay for all the "free" benefits the Govt. is giving away. May as well be you and me.

Because YOUR Congressman(wench) allowed Bush's earlier tax reduction to expire Dec 16 2010, the withholding rates reverted to the old ones, hence the "tax increase".
By the way, if you'd monitor your pay status via the "MyPay" DFAS website, you'd have know about this this past Dec.

what are you saying? I haven't been checking in enough at gov.com
it still doesn't make me feel any better,
ray
i had my concurrent receipt ironed out nov 2009, i was initially rated 60% so i had only four years to wait. then they upped me to 70 then to 100 in a few months and everything went nuts.

Fellow veterans make sure the letter actually came from DFAS and not the scam email that went out phasing for your personal info. I get my DA Civilian, Army retirement and VA Disability through DFAS my pay.mil website There was even a note about the scam on there.
Again protect your hard earned pay by checking on the .mil site only
Concurrent receipt is where your disability pay is not subtracted from your retirement. Meaning you get x dollars retirement and x dollars disability the disability is non taxable. Don't forget CRSC combat related special compensation. That is another fund source for the disabled vet. If you have not heard of it go to the VA website or google it the forms are online for downloading and you submit them with copies of your medical records.

To late there is already talk on Capital hill and in the VA System about reverifying eligibility requirements, increasing Tricare Copays and reducing benefits for those already retired to include the already planned reduction of retirement percentages with increased service length prior t retiring. Funny though, No talk about reducing Congressional pensions or compensation! Amazing that if you are in the Senate or House you and your family can be buried at Arlington but War veterans and KIA's are being turned away to state burial plots. Our Government in action!

They are going to do that by making you start paying on Tricare

There is already an annual fee for Tricare plus a copayment if you are not able to get in at the local base, even when seeing a network provider there is a copayment. Then there's the whole Dental issue, supposed to be free for life when I was in and then about 5 years before I retired it changed to another Tricare type coverage- I know it's nothing compared to what civilians pay but my copayment for a root canal was $400.00 then had to have crown on same tooth another $450.00 out of pocket. Current talk is the annual fee may increase by 50% no word on how much the copayment will go up.
