Just got this info from Joe over on usa-rvforum.com and want to pass it on to all veterans.
***********************************************
Its official, "REQUEST FORMS" needed to get your DD-214's are NOW Online.

The National Personnel Records Center (NPRC) has provided the following website for veterans to gain access to their DD-214's online:

http://vetrecs.archives.gov/

This may be particularly helpful when a veteran needs a copy of his DD-214 for employment purposes.

NPRC is working to make it easier for veterans with computers and Internet access to obtain copies of documents from their military files.

Military veterans and the next of kin of deceased former military members may now use a new online military personnel records system to request documents.

Other individuals with a need for documents must still complete the Standard Form 180, which can be downloaded from the online web site.

Because the requester will be asked to supply all information essential for NPRC to process the request, delays that normally occur when NPRC has to ask veterans for additional information will be minimized.

The new web-based application was designed to provide better service on these requests by eliminating the records centers mailroom and processing time.

John, not sure what you mean by "on-line". I saw where I could submit my request to get one on line but I didn't see where I could download it. Were you able to download yours or just submit the request on line? Thanks

Hi Bruce,

hummnnn, I just re-read the title of my post and it is mis-leading... I'll go back and change that.. thanks for the heads-up.

I just copied and pasted everything from Joe's post and haven't used it.

But some of the posters on other forums checked it out and said it was a place to download the correct form needed to request the DD 214..

Supposedly it speeds things up by being able to get the correct forms online for whatever it is a veteran may need, like his DD forms, etc..

From what I have read of other posters, once you download and print out the form, you fill it out and mail or fax it to the address noted..

Knowing how slow the government usually is, I imagine this way would likely save a month of waiting..

John

It has been common practice to record your DD-214's with your county recorders office. Be sure they protect them as most county records are public records and many counties are putting them on-line.

It is amazing what is public record. I was doing some tax research and stumbled across a website that let me know what all of my neighbors were paying and who owned their property, etc...

You can get the forms on-line. Go to
www.VetFriends.com

They have quite a bit of info on the site.
