Unfortunately, no matter if you tie the issue of our pay raises to a political issue or not, the fact remains this venue(irv2.com), is not the place for those discussions.
There are other places we must go if we want to pursue those discussions.
Sorry.....
This idea of political discussions on other issues have risen in other areas of the site and the answer is always the same.
I certainly dont like the idea of no pay raise next year anymore than any of you. It's just that I agreed when I signed on this site that I would not have a political or religious discussion on a subject.

I'm sorry that I can't answer Mike's post, without getting political. It is very difficult to stand by and watch this great country of ours failing. If anyone would like to discuss my point of view, please Email or PM me so I don't offend anyone. GOD BLESS AMERICA

Geeze Folks, I feel like Steve Herkle, "Did I do that?"
I didn't think this was going to go South.
My question has been answered.
Thank You.

Well got my 1st deposit Last night. I not only didn't get a raise. I took a 17 dollar cut. Will have to logon to DFAS and see what is up.

The federal tax deduction rate changed. Those who asked for change are getting it a few dollars at a time!

That kind of extortionist arrogance is EXACTLY why tax-paying non-military resent military retirees who complain about their retirement benefits. You do a disservice to your brethren in arms.

Am I dodging bullets? Yes, financial ones...every day. Just like millions of citizens who work in the private sector with no security net, no guaranteed retirement, no medical benefits, and no tax exempt housing stipends. I work like a dog to make sure I am successful and my job is secure, yet at any moment, and with no warning I could be on the street.

Let's get this straight. I appreciate...no, love, the military services. I have many friends and family that serve, some that even lost their lives, but guess what...every single one of them volunteered. Career service is a brave and noble choice, but it is just that...a choice. We haven't had a conscript army since the 1970s and no one was forced to go career, even then.

This is a symbiotic relationship you see. The public taxpayers agree to fund the career, retirement, medical benefits and disability payments for our servicemen and women to carry out the political bidding of our nation, protect our borders and see to our financial interests overseas. Servicemen volunteer to serve in exchange for these payments (along with no small amount of pride and honor). It is a two way street and terms are agreed to in principle when you enlist.

Why should retired military be exempt from the economic pain that our nation is in right now? What right do you have to demand unjustified COLA's when the average working wage went DOWN last year?
Mc2,

You make some very good points and it's obvious you understand the problem. However, this thread was directed to a military group, not a civilian group and they are the one's who should be answering. I'm not saying your points are not valid, just that your don't qualify in the group to whom the question was directed. Unless you have been placed in harm's way in the service to your country, it is difficult, if not impossible, to understand the bond between service people whether single termers or retirees.

Like many, I cringe at the comments directed towards the President. I, too, didn't vote for him, but as with ALL presidents in the past, he is MINE and I will always support the office. I don't consider that a political statement, just a fact. I agree that November 2010 should be an interesting time.
