Say farewell to the Phrog.

Many of you will remember this jewel.

Farewell Phrog

Yep

Unique sound, you knew when one was flying over, I was sitting in the MH a few days ago and thought I heard a helo flying about, but as it got closer I knew it wasn't, the sound was too deep, ran outside just in time to see a V-22 fly right over the MH going into JAX International, gave me goose bumps......

Another helo note, when we deployed to Sigonella, you could tell the 46 and 54 boys in the club cause their flight suits were always stained with oil and grease....

We just spent some time at Lake O'Neill and the flight path to the strip is right over the lake. Cobra's, new and old, (New being the twin rotors.) and the V-22 Osprey were a common sight. Didn't see a Huey, but if one was around I would not have to see it, just hear it to know what it was. No mistaking that whup whup.

I flew the Phrog's big brother in VN...the Army CH 47 Chinook. Any yes, my flight suit was always greasy and oily. We never went any where without a case of transmission fluid.

I crewed the CH-47 Chinook A, B, C, Super C, and D models. I crewed in Vietnam and in Washington state as an Army Reserve crew member. It's sad to see the CH-46 retire but the CH-47 is still going strong.

I will always have good memories of the Phrog. Farewell to a piece of history, but not the memories.

I was a crew chief on the CH-46, 67-71, flew in everything from A to E models.
They are having and may have already had a retirement ceremony at Dulles air and space museum for the CH-46 and will have one on display along with the Enola Gay, SR-71, Space Shuttle, and many other aircraft. A must see if in the DC area.

Spent my first 200 days at Charlie 1, last days on Hill 55. In country 68-69.

made a few courier runs and they loved seeing us coming with the briefcase. It meant the could not fly the land route.
