First, read the following, and then click on the web site.
UNBELIEVABLY BRILLIANT
The conductor of the orchestra is Andre Rieu from Holland .
The young lady, her trumpet and her rendition of TAPS makes
your hair stand on end.
Many of you may never have heard taps played in its entirety,
for all of the men and women that have died for you to have the
freedom you have in America . This is an opportunity you won't
want to miss and I guarantee you'll never forget.
Amazingly beautiful. Melissa Venema, age 13, is the trumpet soloist.
She is also from Holland.
Here is Taps played in its entirety. The original version of Taps
was called Last Post, and was written by Daniel Butterfield in 1801.
It was rather lengthy and formal, as you will hear in this clip, so in
1862 it was shortened to 24 notes and re-named Taps.
Melissa Venema is playing it on a trumpet whereby the original
was played on a bugle.

Thank you. It is such a beautiful piece and was performed amazingly.
I do not like hearing the 24 note version, but it also is heart wrenching.

Go here if anyone wishes to download TAPS for their free use. U.S. Military version.

For a period of time in the early 1960's I was a music at MCRD, San Diego and had the honor to play taps for numerous services at Fort Rosecrans National Cemetery. Every day of the week and sometimes over 20 services in one day. The young lady in the video plays a beautiful version of Taps but it doesn't set well with me. I do prefer the traditional version. I still have memories of family members simply going to pieces at the first sound of the bugle.

Wow that is amazing. The first few notes always well up in my throat. Wife loved it and wants it played at her funeral. I am in agreement with 1ciderdog, even if he was a hollywood Marine I want the military version to send me to my maker. Too many personal memories.
Thanks for the post as this was wonderful.

I finally gave it a shot.. (And captured the audio track) That is not Taps, is is a composition based upon Taps however.. Il Silenco (The silence) as best I can type the language it's titled in.
However that said.. Very beautiful piece...
As for taps.. That is a tune I have heard a few times more than I care for (Military, including police, funerals) and will very likely hear again all too soon.. But that is the world today.
Taps has only 4 notes. Repeating and in different octaves, but only 4 notes.

Always at the position of attention and facing the music. If covered salute, if not, placing the right hand over the heart. Taps is the "only" piece of music that merrits as much respect as the National Anthem.
I was very moved when I heard this extended piece and that's why I wanted to share it with you guys.

You will always find me at attention when Taps, national Anthem or the Marine Corp Hymn is played.*
I know the rest of you have the same respect for your perspective branch hymns.
God bless all who served and welcome into your kingdom those that we honor with Taps.

Thanks for sharing, it has been a long time since I'd heard the longer version.

As a young child, my hometown had a Memorial Day parade every year. It would march down main street, veterans, police, firemen and trucks, boy scouts of all ranks, girl scouts of all ranks. Sometimes I was in the parade, until I got out of the Boy Scouts.
The parade would end up at the library, where a memorial was erected with the names of those Who Gave All. At the end of the speeches, TAPS would be played. The library sat at the beginning of a downhill street. The front was at main street level, and the rear was about 15 feet or so lower at the basement area. One year TAPS started being played, and it was followed with an echo. There were two buglers, one out front, and one in the rear behind the building. It was the only year I remember TAPS being played with an echo bugler. It was astonishing at the time, and the memories flowing now are still strong. It was the most beautiful, chilling, sound I have heard.
