NAF El Centro, CA. The winter home of the Blue Angels. Very large RV Park there that is full all winter. We spent a few winter months there a few years back. There is always a site open for the passer-by.

I have enjoyed the show (Blue Angles) a few times.

Got lucky one time doing laundry... One of the pilots was doing his at the same time and place... Interesting chat.

Applied to the Air Force (yes, I know) but alas. Hypertensive enough to be 4-f at the draft board.

of course.. I had a reason to be hypertensive there.

Awsome low level flight. The background is a mystery. Anybody know where it was taken?

WE were living in Annapolis, MD for a few years, and watched the Graduation show a number of times. One time, we were right on the bank across from the Academy, and one of the pilots waved to us from a High-G turn, knife-edge right over our heads.

The A4 Sky Hawk was a very small attack aircraft. It was also one of the very few aircraft in the US Naval Aircraft inventory regularly operating from aircraft carriers without folding wings. It did not have a power steering unit and had to be maneuvered with a tow bar manned by the aircraft handlers when aboard aircraft carriers. It was often called “The Scooter”.

In the late 1950s into the late 1960s the F11 had the Blue Angles helm. A sleek looking new era aircraft it had lots of design problems and did not stay in the Navy's inventory very long as an operational shipboard aircraft.

From 1969 – 1974 the big heavy F4 Phantom II, supersonic interceptor/fighter bomber got lots of oooohs and aaaahs from the crowds with its dual afterburner maneuvers.

The original home of the famed Blue Angles is Naval Air Station, Jacksonville, FL. This F/A-18 is on display at the main gate.
