Tomb of The Unknown Soldier

This stirring video may have been around awhile. But Laughing outloud at The Tomb of The Unknown Soldier is unthinkable. See how this Proud Marine took care of business:

The guards at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier are from the U.S. Army's 3rd Infantry Regiment and are known as the Old Guard.

It seems to be the attitude of the younger generation and the ignorance of foreign tourists. We visited the USS Arizona in Feb. and could't believe what we saw. Used to be you entered the memorial with your hat/cap removed and moved around in silence and with respect. Not anymore. Laughing, talking loud and of course hats on heads.

Did you say anything to the disrespectful?

Like, "Hey, this is a memorial and silence and respect should be shown. Please remove your hats and be silent for a little while."

No I didn't, but in retrospect I probably should have. Those of us who knew the traditional protocol were outnumbered at least 15 to 1. I didn't feel like we should fight Pearl all over again. They were taught a different history than we were. There probably would have been a scene as I get more than a little touchy about the South Pacific. My dad was a Marine and spent 2 1/2 years in that region. Scarred him for life.

What is not understood here is things have changed. Because they do things, act a little differently then you doesn't mean they are disrespecting the men that gave their lives and those that are buried there. My cousin was there on dec 7, 1941 and was lucky, and got off the ship. People will show their reSpect in different ways. So lighten up. You pay your respects your way and let others do the same. Just the fact that they are there says a lot. Their not there because it's disneyland

Rather I was or wasn't has nothing to do with the conception of respect, and I'm not going to hijack this thread. This thread was started on the mis-conception of respect And how and what it has to be.

Laughing, yelling, joking, and other such activity is not respectful in the least. Would these fools tolerate such actions at the grave site of their loved ones? I think not. Then why tolerate such activity because "they were taught a different history" such as we were barbarians for using the atom bomb instead of losing another million Marines and Army soldiers by invading Japan, or we should not have loaned war materiel and food to the people of Great Britain, as it hastened our entry into World War II. If you want to laugh and joke, GO to the happiest place on earth. Every occupant of a grave in Arlington would choose to be living and returned home to their loved ones. Our national cemeteries should be places of solemn reflection instead of "must see" tourist attractions.

Kudos to that young soldier in the Old Guard who put those oafs in their place.
