Somewhere on the web I saw a long, drawn out comparison of the costs of Prime v/s Standard with Standard coming out on top. Has anyone else seen it and if so, can you re-direct me to it?

No, I haven't seen that; however, Congress has shelved the TriCare increase for a least a year because of the ruckus raised by the various military/veteran associations.

Hooray!

Good, about time Congress stood up. I'm suprised that they didn't add to their pensions and take some away from ours

If you're an RV'er and travel out of your catchment area, you MUST call back to your primary care manager to get permission for ANY treatment. It is a monumental hassle, and most of the time they will NOT agree to your getting treatment away from your local area. Go with the Standard and a good supplement Fleet Reserve, MOAA etc.

You'll find a number of comprehensive posts about Tricare choices on the Escapees Veteran's forum. As a full-timer, Tricare Standard is the only real choice for us & we're happy so far.

My DW uses the TriCare. I use the VA as my disability is service connected, there is less out of my pocket. In a couple more years, I'll have Tricare For Life.

Of course, retirees can also use the medical facilities at bases and get their meds there as well (if they carry them). Because you are a veteran as well, I recommend that you sign up with the VA and get a VA ID card. This gives you another medical option. Of course, you have to pay your share, but you can use TriCare at the VA as well.

We are actually active duty and am considering standard. I hate using the doctors here on post. I have fluid in my ear and can't hear. I called and they cannot see me until Apr 19. I made the appt in mid Mar. I have trouble with pediatric appt as well. The wait is forever and then the doctor is there for 2 secs, is very disorganized, etc. I am going to try to switch clinics or get a certificate of nonavailability (a 3-4 wk wait to see a doc is unavailable as far as I am considered). If that does not work, we are switching to Standard. I don't mind paying a copay or deductible if I can get to see a doctor when I need to.

I was told that I had to have a permant, physcial address in order to get Tricare Prime. Since I dont have one, only a remail service, I stick with Tricare Standard.

I would think an internet search for Tricare would give you a lot of information about the Tricare plans. I ordered some brochures about the options and they do an adequate job of discussing the coverages.

Hi All
Just noticed the Military/VA page on IRV2. I too am a Ret SCPO and have pretty much been fulltiming since 2000. I went on Tricare for life and Medicare last Oct but haven't had to use them yet so I can't comment. I get all our meds here at NAS Meridian and usually have someone pick them up for me or take a med run back for another 90 day supply.
Good site, Ya-all have a good and safe Time on the road.

Yes, TriCare does have a web site. You can get info from there and you can view your payment records. Of course you have to have a password and they will only mail that to you which takes a couple of weeks. They need a better system.

To have TriCare for Life once you are on Medicare, you have to be enrolled in Part B which has a premium of about $70 a month. But, what Medicare doesn't pay for, TriCare will.
