As with so many others, I've been with USAA for decades - since 1968. About 10 years ago, we moved from Alaska to CO and shopped around for insurance for our home and cars when we arrived.
USAA's costs were very high compared to AARP/The Hartford. I called and spoke to one of the VPs at USAA and questioned their costs, stating that they were considerably higher and asked if they were justified. He assured me they were, and that they couldn't meet AARP's prices.
I told him I was going to switch to AARP because USAA's costs were unbelievably expensive, with no claims ever for well over 30 years. He didn't argue, so I left. Haven't looked back.
AARP has all of my insurance coverage, including the RV. The RV coverage was significantly lower - with the same line-by-line coverage - than "specialty" RV insurance companies.
The Hartford's customer service has been exceptional. We had a pricey claim when a wind storm blew out the front windows in our home. A second claim was placed when lightning hit nearby and destroyed some expensive electronic systems in the house. Their response and service were rapid and fair.
I still have my banking through USAA. It's disappointing that the company has seemingly lost its focus...and can't provide reasonable pricing for their policies. If they did, I'd be back.
