USAA

I have been with USAA for over 35 years but I am leaving their insurance. I just bought a new Entegra MH and when I contacted them they said they would not insure new motorhomes. My recently traded Monaco was insured with them from 2002 until this year. I asked to speak to a manager and I was transferred to the person who listens to complaints and they said that RVs are now considered too high of a risk. I pointed out that RV owners were generally older and some of the safest drivers but the young woman said that RVs had too much liability. I asked if I had purchased a new high end SUV or Porsche would they ensure it and she said yes. I said those seem to me to be much more likely to be stolen or wrecked. I concluded our little talk with saying it was people like me who paid for their company and they were chasing away their core customers and accepting too many risky customers. Maybe they started believing their own ads.

So I have Safeco now on the RV and I'm shopping my cars and house.

Been with them about 50 years. They are not the cheapest but I feel pretty secure with them. They insure my MH through Progressive. So far as I've checked with some quotes no one can beat them. So I guess I will stay with them for my remaining years. Each year I get a rebate and a distribution from my subscriber savings which I apply to buy insurance. When you consider the re-inbursement the prices are very competitive for Auto and home.

When I call and they look at my tenure, they break their backs to help me on most any issue including investment and banking. In contrast my original Military bank has been bought out over and over and now part of Wells Fargo. Even though records show the same 50 year tenure with my original branch, I don't get the red carpet treatment like I do with USAA. This does not mean I dislike Wells Fargo, it just means USAA always gives me VIP treatment.

As with so many others, I've been with USAA for decades - since 1968. About 10 years ago, we moved from Alaska to CO and shopped around for insurance for our home and cars when we arrived.

USAA's costs were very high compared to AARP/The Hartford. I called and spoke to one of the VPs at USAA and questioned their costs, stating that they were considerably higher and asked if they were justified. He assured me they were, and that they couldn't meet AARP's prices.

I told him I was going to switch to AARP because USAA's costs were unbelievably expensive, with no claims ever for well over 30 years. He didn't argue, so I left. Haven't looked back.

AARP has all of my insurance coverage, including the RV. The RV coverage was significantly lower - with the same line-by-line coverage - than "specialty" RV insurance companies.

The Hartford's customer service has been exceptional. We had a pricey claim when a wind storm blew out the front windows in our home. A second claim was placed when lightning hit nearby and destroyed some expensive electronic systems in the house. Their response and service were rapid and fair.

I still have my banking through USAA. It's disappointing that the company has seemingly lost its focus...and can't provide reasonable pricing for their policies. If they did, I'd be back.

Have been with them since 1979. They have always treated us well. I'm surprised that no one has brought up that they send out a refund each year dependent on the amount of their claims paid.
