I was wondering How do you celebrate Veterans Day. I guess in years past it was just another work day, but now the older I get the day seens a lot more Special to me. The past years the wife and I have went to Washington DC, visited local memorials and our local Veteran's cemetery Abraham Lincoln. This year we are thinking of Branson. We always liked Branson as they are Veteran friendly. So were off to Branson. I guess I'm just wondering what everyone else does.

Hi Wayne, my commitment.....my wife and I who are both retired from active duty will spend a little time this Veteran's Day at a National Veterans Cemetary and VA home visiting. Couldn't in good faith be anywhere else... There has been no greater honor in life for me than to have served this great Nation!... I will forever be in her debt until the day I too join the men and women who have served and are now at rest in our nation's hollow grounds across America.

Memorial day is for remembering/honoring those that have fallen.

Veterans day is for thanking those that have served.

Keeping that in mind, I just go into a bar/tavern and buy a couple of drinks for anybody that has served. That, of course brings more rounds from others as I have done my 22 years myself. For a couple of hours we usually just tell service connected lies to each other!

Being an Air Force retiree and a disabled vet who now owns a business along with the spouse (who is also a veteran) we keep the appointment book closed on that day and do something we want to do.

Around these parts, we have many troops of all services deploying, we make sure families of deployed service members who are in need get help. If you are a vet and need our services, they are discounted.

Occasionally, the wife and I will see a service member out with his or her family at a local restaurant. It's a pleasure to be finishing dessert and hear the waitress tell that family their meal has been paid for in full, either by us or another patron. They never know who paid. It happens a lot here.
