Hi
New to RV world. I'm 68 yrs. old and just got my 10% disability. The local office, staffed by (ex military voulenters), assisted me in fillling out the forms for copensation.(forms can be very tricky).
"Vietnam Veterans of America" also incluedes VETERAN ERA people that DIDN'T serve in combat or in vietnam.
This organizationis is not linked to the VA. They are on your side!. Go to "vietnam veterans of America" and then click on local groups in your state. NOTE: Just because an office is not listed in your area Does Not mean there isn't one.
I also get glasses and some benefits that are not covered by medicare! In the past I was just told to kiss off from main VA office.
May God bless you all.

Hi Fred,

Thanks for posting about the organization. Vietnam vets need an organization just for them.

I recieved a 10% disability several years ago so I recieve a small check from the VA that is tax free. But they deduct that amount from retired pay. Then I applied for CRSC to prove my disability was from flying 2000 hours of combat support. So I now get another check to replaced what is lost from the retirement. It is also tax free.

I hope this new organization explains this to the vets.

Tom

And a very important FYI for All Nam Vets & That is Agent Orange Registry & Website. You can google Agent Orange. Very important for Nam Vets to get the Free Baseline physical, and know about the nine conditions where you DO NOT have to prove it was service connected, the law is written that it assumes if you have one of the nine listed conditions, you are granted the disability. Even you Navy Vets who cruised off shore (recent Navy Upgrade to the Law). Here is the VA website -- Agent Orange - Office of Public Health and Environmental Hazards

Fred,

I used the Disabled American Veterans organization for my claim. They did an excellent job. Of course all of these service organizations handle your claims for free.

I have seen a lawyer commercial where they claim they will fight for your claim, but at what cost?

I am 100% total and permanent. The key is to make your rating increase quest a hobby. I have been at it for 20 years and finally this year I got "crazy" enough to rate 100%. DAV and VVA and the VFW will pursue your claim at no cost to you. Often using an advocate will cost you anywhere from 10% to 30% of your award.

Advocate=Someone who does this job professionally. They know the paperwork and who to send it to. They also know the folks who do the reviews and can change to rating. It requires a focused person who can keep the correspondence together, when to escalate the pressure and when to request interviews. It is a time consuming operation and my advocate worked hard to get my rating and then to continue until I was rated at 100%.

Common to us older folk are high blood pressure, prostate cancer, and diabetes.

These are also disability rated conditions presumed to be caused by exposure to Agent Orange.

If you served in Vietnam, and have the above conditions, make your application for disability and hence maybe monthly tax free income and free medical care.

I made my own application after having had surgery for prostate cancer and then learning about the Agent Orange thing. Although it took about 6 months for my application to be processed and approved, I have been treated well by the VA and do receive disability compensation.

Best of the Future to all

I posted a while back about applying for the condition of heart disease. I have had bypass surgery 2 times and 4 stents. I am a Vietnam on ground vet. Today I received my award letter. I was awarded 100% retro active to April 1995. I have fought this battle a while, but I never lost hope. The American Legion supported me thru out the process. I encourage each and every one who has a condition related to your military service to file the claim and stick with it until it is over.

I want to THANK every Veteran for their service to this great Country.
