I was in the 147th Assult Support Helicopter Company in Vung Tau from October 68 to October 69. I was a flight engineer (crew chief, and door gunner) on a Chinook helicopter. We supported the 9th Infantry till they departed VN. Then we suppoertd the ARVN. We also resuppplied the Brown Water Navy.

Safe travels. JD

Era Vet for me. Welcome Home All.
Got to serve on the USS Chicago CG-11, call sign Red Crown.
Met a very respected Master Chief at our reunion this year. He was an Operations Specialist, Credited with assisting in 13 enemy MIG aircraft kills and with saving 4 friendly F-4 fighters, resulting in the first award of the Distinguished Service Medal in U.S. Navy history to an enlisted man for combat action.

I would like to sincerely thank all of you gentlemen for your service. I was of draft able age at that time, but between a college deferment and a job that was also deferrable, I was able to stay home.

An Khe, Central Highlands 8th Engineers, HQ Company, heavy equipment operator. Only LZ I remember was X-ray. Helped build the airstrip for 25th Infantry, opened a back road off Hwy 1 to China Beach area. VC burned our bridges as fast as we could build them.

Jan 66 to 67 .... before the SXXT hit the fan and it all went down hill. Was one of the very luckycones, came home without a scratch, head messed up for an 18 year old

Feb 1971 Engineers checked all bridges going up Hill 881 Khe Sanh. When I was driving in convoy for the first two weeks, we could not crossing bridges. We had to go down in the gullies. I was put in charge of the P.O.L. after that. Hell the convoy duty was safer.
